  • SBC Kiteboard 35 Cover

    SBC_35_Cover
I scored my third cover from the 2011 Liquid Force Shoot with this shot of Chris Burke on the JWCF Slider on the cover of SBCKiteboard Magazine. I was very excited with how well the guys were riding and it allowed me to try new thing while out shooting. I like that the lighting is completely different from the other covers and I must say this shot was a tough one to pull off. I also wanted to thank Nate Appel and Michael Juhl for being my flash guys that night!

  • Labor Day Skate Party at LGB

    BRYANELKUS_189329
After a great couple days of surf the waves are long gone. We headed over to the Laughing Gull Bowl for a Labor Day skate feast. There was a solid crew of skaters there and everyone had a great time. We rode well into the dark as Tommie fired up the grill.

  • The Aftermath of Hurrican Earl on Cape Hatteras, NC

    BRYANELKUS_188924
It was a long haul back to the Island this weekend. The usual 3-4 hour drive from Richmond took 5-6 hours with the traffic due to the water on Hwy. 12. But all was well when we made it down. There was minimal damage at best. If you were to have gone away for those couple day you would have never known that a once Cat. 4 hurricane Earl was headed towards the island.

There was and still is plenty of sitting water, but all in all this was the best out come. The waves were spectacular on Saturday. I caught amazing sunset surf with Jessie and Pat. The sky was on fire, one of the top surf session of the year!

We made it out again the next morning. It was much smaller but very fun. My cousin Jeff and his friend John were also in town and we got them out in the line up. After the surf we grabbed breakfast at Atlantic Coast Café then headed home for some R&R.

After a terrific nap we packed up the truck and headed to Ramp 23 for another session followed by a skate at the laughing gull bowl and an amazing sunset Standup in the glassy Pamlico Sound as the sky blow up for us one more time!

  • 2011 Liquid Force Photo Shoot

The 2011 Liquid Force Photo Shoot took place in Cape Hatteras, NC.  The LF Team was amazing, everyone got along great and it showed in the work that came out of the shoot.  The nearly 2 weeks shoot produced a great product catalog, ad campaigns and 4 covers shots.

  • Sitting out Hurricane Earl from the Outer Banks

NASA Satellite Captures Hurricane Earl on September 1, 2010

It is absolutely amazing to think how people dealt with this situation a couple decades ago without the amazing forecasting and electronic devices we have today. The past three days have been nothing but spectacular, with blue skies and calm winds. There were no blatant signs of a massive Cat 4 hurricane barreling towards our home.

But it was pretty eerie on the beach tonight knowing the storm was just off the coast as we were all sitting a hundred yards off the coast in the lineup waiting for waves. It was a very humbling experience. As, it was almost too calm except for the way overhead bombs coming in from the horizon. We surfed until sunset as the onshore winds picked up. After checking out the 8pm NOAA forecast for Hurricane Earl we decided not to chance the storm veering off in time and head off the island. So I’m sitting this one out everyone, but hope to be back to snap some pictures asap. Best of luck to everyone who stayed, be safe.

  • Hurricane Danielle Photos Cape Hatteras, NC

    BRYANELKUS_187630

Hurricane Danielle started off a bit disappointing. We surfed two days down south with pretty bad head high closing out waves. Monday proved to be a different story with the NE winds dying the surf up here cleaned up and made for a great session. I went with Tommie, Slezy, Lulu, Brad (our O’Neill Rep) and Snowey (O’Neil Guy too) to a ramp for a surf.

Everyone caught some great waves. Twords the end of the session a bunch of the East Coast Pros came out and it turned it to a punting show. With guys taking off on both sides of the A Frame and pumping down the line to a 360, shuvet or flip. It was nutty to say the least.

The next morning we headed out to a different spot to catch the dawn patrol session. It was glassy and fun! Brad dominated the session.

  • PERU 2010 Day 15

    BRYANELKUS_184084

We busted it today to the kitespot early with hopes of scoring wind early. The wind came and the boys headed out to ride. The water was less churned up and much more blue. Everyone scored some great shots and we had a great day until it was time for me to take a session and the wind died out. Never the less we had another great day of sessions. That night we meet up with Palo and Ingio for a night out. We went to Loki (a local hostile) which was a trip! The place was crazy to say the least. It was a great day!
