  • Gabrielle Weekend

Gabrielle rolled through this weekend. Friday was very light but we tried to kite on the southside but we failed miserably. Saturday was a blast. I started the day off with a downwinder from avon pier to the Hotels. Nick, dave and the guys from Santa Cruz came along for the trip. It was a great downwinder, NE winds at 18-13 and wave that were chest to over head. We were all pretty worked by the end of the down winder. We took a break for lunch/breakfast. Tommie called me up and said they were headed to the southside. We rode down at the washout ocean side. The winds were pretty offshore which made for some very nicely shaped waves. I was very underpowered on a 10m Bularoo and could barley make it up wind so I headed in until Matt was done riding the 12m 08 Havoc and took it for a spin. It’s a great kite and I scored a fun little session on it. The wind started getting flukey so I headed back north and went to Kite Poin tto meet up with some of the REAL Coaches. Nate, Ryan, Steve and JoJo were out killing it at the point. We wound up riding there until dark.

Sunday the storm was suppose to hit so I turned on the Weather Channel to check the waves. I see their reporting from the Frisco pier. So dave, Zack and I head down there for a little kite session. The wind was SE (side on shore) when I was heading down there, but by the time I got to the pier the wind shifted to SSE (straight on shore). We decided to head out to promote REAL. Well it worked Dave and I were interviewed on TWC. Since the wind was not good there we headed to The Cove to meet up with the rest of the crew. It seemed like everyone was there: Greg, Lane, Pam, Tommie, George, Jay, Matt and tons more. I put up a 7m and a surfboard and got blown off it. I then took out a wakeboard and got blown off that. I called it a day and took pictures for the rest of the day. It was another fantastic weekend.

  • REAL Kiteboarding Tests the 2008 LF Havoc

Well The 2008 Havoc was delivered a few days ago. Tommie and I headed out on the first windy day to test the new design. We tested it in flat water at Kite Point and then headed to the Hotels for a little wave action. We both really enjoyed flying the kite. Its perfect for unhooked tricks and relaunches well. We were excited to see a 16m Havoc this year, which also worked well. There are so many great kites coming out for 2008 its going to be a tough choice if you have to pick out new gear. Here is the video:

    Weekend Wrap up

REAL Kiteboarding hosted another free demo this weekend. I headed to where the action was, Kite Point. There was a great turn out. Everyone had a great time trying out new gear and riding all day long both days. After hanging out at KP for the morning I headed to the Lighthouse for some wave action in the afternoon. It was great to ride and see everyone this weekend. It kinda felt like a kiting reunion.

  • Cape Hatteras, Night Sky : Take 2

Last night I went out for round third on Night shooting. I really enjoyed taking photographs at night capturing the night sky. This time I ventured past my back yard and headed to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. I wanted to capture this shot since I started to play with this kind of photography. The moon was completely full which made the exposures go much more quickly. I was outshooting for a good 2-3 hours and came back with a couple decent shots. Below is a composition of 6 of my favorites from the night. More images can be found on my Flickr site.

    Weekend Wrapup

Friday: Friday I finally meet Aaron Sales of SBC Kiteboarding Magazine in person. We have been in Email contact for a long time, so it was nice to get to meet him face to face. This was the weekend of surfing. Im getting pretty stoked on surfing now that I can catch waves instead of just sitting in the lineup. That night after wook Zack and I surfed the Light house for a short but good session.

Saturday: Was my best session of surfing ever. I rode for over 2 1/2 hours of shredy goodness. I headed out to the Hotels around 9 after checking the Lighthouse. After seeing the 40+ surfers packed at the lighthouse I figured the Hotels would be the call. As I was pulling out Nuzzi past me. He pulled off at the Hotels too. Aaron was with him too. Arron took out the 11’ SUP, Nuzzi was on the 6’5 Chamber and I rode the 8’0 Destroyer. It was so cool to watch aaron an intermediate surfer out charging on the SUP for the first time. Not only was having a great time, but he was scoring some of the biggest waves of the day. The waves were shoulder high and very fun. Later Zack showed up, then Trip and then Dave. We had a good crew having a great time. I switched Zack for the 5’10 fish and was actually able to get a half dozen waves on it. Now im pretty excited about riding that board. The fishes turn so much better than the destroyers. We took a break and napped and what not and then headed back to the hotels for another surf session.

Sunday: scored a short surf session at the Hotels again. I got pounded hard in the beach break, which im still recovering from. Then got in a quick kite session with Lane, Pam and Dave just north of the Cove. It was an exhausting but very fun weekend.

  • REAL Tests the 2008 Naish Helix

REAL Tests the 2008 Naish Helix. Check out the video below. The Helix looks to be a great kite for 2008. So far i have only taken a couple tacks on the 14. It felt like a normal kite. Ill will share more when i get to ride it in good conditions.

Well I made it home for a few days this last week. I drove Samantha back to Mi. We got it on Wednesday afternoon. We had a BBQ with her family. After that we headed to the bar to hang out with some friends. I got to catch up with Jason Wiener after his long stint in Israel. We left early the next morning to head up to Tawas MI. For the Great Lakes Kiteboarding event. It was a great event full of lots of kiting good times and good friends. Ryan, Heather and I made the cover of the Bay City Times. Thursday’s Wind was off and on but all had a good time. Friday was an Epic session in the Tawas pools. We scored half the day on our 13m kites and the second half on the smallest kite you could find. My parents, sister and uncle came up to hang out on Saturday. We had a good time hanging out on the beach playing with trainer kites and talking. Sunday had no wind either so we headed home for a great dinner then it was back to Hatteras (which was an adventure in its self.

  • 2008 Slingshot REV Tested

This is the video from our shoot of the 2008 Slingshot REV. The REV proved to be a very solid kite. I really enjoyed riding the REV. I rode the 11m in nearly all conditions for the size. Its a good balance between the Fuel, T2 and link. The REV unhooks like the Fuel (similar bar pressure). It turns fast like the T2 and has the excellent relaunch similar to the T2. The new bar system is fantastic. Its similar to the 5th line system but with only 4 lines. This means you can compleatly Flag (let all the power out) the kite but your bar will not be a mess, infact you can pull your bar right back to you and get back up as riding. The REV should prove to be a popular kite for 2008. Check out the video.

  • Weekend Wrap up

It was another fun weekend in Cape Hatteras. This weeks adventures included kiting, surfing and partying. Whats new?

Friday, I went surfing with Zack and his brother Luke at the Hotels after work. The waves were a little mushy, but I had a terrific session on the JL 9’1”. After a little we headed over to the Lighthouse to check the break out there. It was bigger but closed out quick. We paddled out and surfed there for a while then called it a night.

Saturday, Started of with an AM session in Frisco getting pounded but big surf. I meet up with Dave, Zack, Luke, and Tommie for that session. When I pulled up to the bath house I walked over the dune to see Tommie going for a huge one, and after a ridiculously long ride and a bunch of turns I thought it was going to be another great session. But after getting pretty worked and only catching a single wave I called it and headed in. I then headed to the light house to find no wave, but wind. So Nick and I rode there for a couple hours then it was Party time! Real Kiteboardings’s 6th Anniversary party was Saturday night. We took a coach from Buxton to Nag’s Head where we boarded a boat that took us to dinner in Manteo. It was quite the party and everyone had a great time.

Sunday, We headed to Frisco to surf. To our surprise there was a very fun but very small wave that kept us entertained all day. Tommie, Genna, Samm, Dave, Mike and a couple others hung out at the beach all day long surfing. It was a blast, especially because the weather was so nice and the humidity dropped. That night Samm and I stayed up to watch the comet show. Although we only saw a few comets I had the chance to snap a couple cool shots.
