  • Upperhand Apparel

Upperhand Apparel is a project that was born from a simple design and an excitement to see Michigan excel once again. There is a lot of pride and hope in Michigan today, with a growing tech scene and a big push to rebuild Detroit. It is a great feeling to have back in the air, one that I envisioned years ago listening to stories from my grandpa of downtown back when the city was great.

This all started with a desire to own and wear a good looking Michigan shirt. Most of the shirts I found online lacked clean style, were not tasteful nor were they functional while being active. The designs morphed quickly into a collection of 20+ Michigan icons and other designs, and I wanted a shirt with each one. Thus, it became a mission and Upperhand Apparel was created. I documented the experience of running with this project in an article, Launch a Clothing Company in 38 Days.

We are starting with 1 design, the LiveMI T-Shirt and I need your help to spread the word about Upperhand Apparel so I can print the rest of the icons!

  • Baron’s Envelope

Baron’s new envelope design. We wanted a clean and simple design that still had a strong brand presence.

  • Surfing in Michigan

A slew of kiters ventured over to South Haven Michigan this weekend to capitalize on NOAA’s forecast of strong winds and large waves. 10 miles out, the trees were moving, but as we arrived to the beach it was as calm as could be. The water dropped from last week’s session by 35+ degrees to a chilly 43 degrees. The cold water seemed to mess with the wind by shore as the buoy’s were reading a steady 35 knots all day. However, the waves were still coming in! I watch the guys out surfing and SUPing for a good hour before paddling out. They dropped significantly by the time I got in the water but they lasted all day. I only had my 6’1, I usually kite. I paddled out anyways and surfed for 2 hours, even catching a few decent waves. We made the best of the conditions with what gear we had.

  • Kiteboarding South Haven MI

We took a trip to South Haven MI on Sunday to go kiteboarding. It turned out to be a beautiful summer day in Michigan with 20 knot NW winds and waist to chest high waves. We wound up riding all day. There was a solid turn out of kiters as well as beach goers. After the wind died in the evening I paddled out for a couple waves. Nothing great came through, but had one decent cruiser. Edger took a few pics for me, thanks buddy.

Julien Fillion and I joined forces to get the cover of Where Magazine.

  • Sterling State Park Kiteboarding

I met up with some of the guys at Sterling State Park on Lake Erie for a kite session. The 14m Liquid Force NRG came in handy after I missed the really windy part of the day. There were some really fun kickers to hit, and we wound up riding for a few hours and called it quits. Thomas Nocella grabbed a few photos from the session. Thanks!
