  • Joe Shriver’s Memorial Service

    BRYANELKUS_129201

Today was Joe Shriver’s Memorial Service. He was a local surfboard shaper, surfer and better known to many of us as Vromom’s Boyfriend. He past away late last week. I headed over with Jason and Tommie to the memorial service.

It has been a while since I had been to a memorial service or a funeral for that matter. It really made us stop and think about how lucky we are, for being able to do what we do everyday, and try to enjoy life.

There were a bunch of local surfers that attended and it was good to see a sense of community and everyone’s respect for another surfer, father and a family.

Lulu asked that I come and snap a couple photos, so take a minute to look through them and remember life is short, have fun while you still can…

  • Kite Point Wakeskate Session

    BRYANELKUS_128826

With a dying NE very early in the morning, it was a very mellow Sunday. The wind picked up in the afternoon a little so we packed the trucks and headed south to Kite Point. Sam was doing work on the wakeskate.

  • Swap Meet and Kiteboarding Session

    BRYANELKUS_127105
Friday REAL had their annual Spring Swap Meet. It also happened to be very windy and warm. Everyone had a great day sessioning. I meet up with Sam Medysky and Craig Cunningham for a little lunch session. I shot them for a bit up in the Slick.

After I took a couple hits on the REAL Dock, while Sam took some shots (thanks buddy). After work the crew headed up to the Slick again. Brandon Scheid, Eric Rienstra, Brian Smith, Jason Slezak, Ryan Evans and many others had an a great sunset session. Brandon was killing it with 5 double S-Bends in a row, and countless other tricks.

Then I sessioned the dock again with the guys. As the sun went down, it was shooting time again. With the Summer Time Blues Band rocking out on the back deck, we had a great shoot on the REAL Dock Slider.

  • Surf & Skate Session in the Outer Banks

    BRYANELKUS_126241

It was a very busy day at work.  After I headed to S-Turns to meet up with Zack for a surf.  It looked pretty fun but small.  After a little time out in the water I packed it up and headed over to meet up with the crew for a skate.

They guys were killing it.  Everyone is starting to get really good.  Its been cool to watch the progression.

  • Sunrise Shoot in Cape Hatteras, NC

    BRYANELKUS_125724
It was another great morning in Cape Hatteras, Nc. With warm morning light, but cool temps, i grabbed the Canon EOS-1D Mark IV and headed to the Rodanthe Pier to shoot the sunrise. After a great sunrise with the pier, I headed around the island to see what i could find.

I’m really starting to love this camera. I have had a little issue with the focusing not being spot on, but i’m going ot play with some setting and get it dialed in. Another thing i was a little concerned about was the auto focus in low light, it just didn’t want to do it.

  • Testing the Canon EOS-1D Mark IV

    BRYANELKUS_125528
Yesterday a Canon EOS-1D Mark IV arrived at my office for a little demo. I was very egger to check it out. I am now on a shooting mission to play with this amazing piece of equipment. I headed out to S-Turns to shoot they guys going on a downwinder with a NE breeze.

    BRYANELKUS_125304

The camera is big, sturdy and fast! Its fps are almost double my Canon 40D’s. The coolest thing is that it shoots HD video. I found myself wanting to shoot more video than shoot pictures.

  • Slider Session on the Slingshot Recoil

    BRYANELKUS_125096
It quite a long day at work. By the time we got out the sun was setting. But luckily Sam, Craig and Eric had pulled out the JWCF Slider for a session. I got a couple pulls on my seemly long lost Slingshot Recoil 142cm wakeboard.  I discovered the board in the shed at REAL after nearly forgetting about it over the winter.  What a find!

It was very nice to get back on that board again. It’s a perfect slider board for wakeboarding just not too great at going up wind behind a kite due to the rocker. After a couple pulls, I grabbed the camera and headed out to shoot the guys.

  • 2010 Late Winter Coverage

The first few months in 2010 have been quite busy to say the least. Here is some of the coverage from the last month or so.

    SBC_34_pg14
    SBC_34_pg40_41

SBC Kiteboard released Issue #34. I scored an opening spread from the Nor’easter that hit Cape Hatteras in November 2009. Lulu and I got together to get her a double page spread in the Tools of the Trade section.
Last there was a little shout out for the 2010 Triple-S Invitational, the best kiteboarding contest in the world. This shot was one of my favorites as it was a very spur of the moment shot in the airport on the way down to the REAL BVI Trip.

    SBC_34_pg36TheKiteboarder_V7N2_pg28
    TheKiteboarder_V7N2_pg40_41

The Kiteboarder Magazing Volume 7 Issue 2 also released. They published two shots from the REAL BVI Trip. One was a fun group shot on the bow of one of the Moorings yachts, and the other was a scenic shot of one of the beaches in the British Virgin Islands.

    OvernightPrints_Blog

Overnight Prints posted up a blogpost about some of the designers and artist that use them for their projects. I made it in the list, “Brillian Art & Design”!

Kiteboarding.eu ran a profile on Petter Johnson in their first issue of the year. I meet up with Petter for a snowkite trip to Utah last year. Since then he has been blowing up, with an amazing performance and wildcard entry at the 2009 Triple-S Invitational and tons of coverage. A great rider and really nice and down to earth kid.

They also ran a couple shots of Brandon Scheid, REAL and Liquid Force Team Rider, in their second issue.

Kiteworld Issue #43 also made its way to mail boxes across the world. A couple shots of Davey Blair showed up in the mix.
