Great Saturday Surf & Photos

Last night I scored a very fun surf session with Tommie and Zack at the end of our street. There were some fun head high waves coming through. I was hoping the sunrise session would also be fun and at least longboardable, and it WAS!!!

Rick and I paddled out as the sun rose from the horizon. Shortly after, Zack showed up, and the three of us had the head high perfect waves all to ourselves. Well, at least for an hour or so.

After there were 25 people in the line up I headed back to the house and grabbed my camera. I shot for another couple hours. It was a fun session and everyone was scoring some fun waves. Some of the crew parked it at the beach and we went back out surfing for a while, before my arms were completely canceled.

Powered Kiting : Kiteskating story

This is an article and photos I did for a Power Kiting magazine in Europe. I thought the layout and photos printed exceptional well. It was about a kiteskating mission we went on earlier this year with: Matt Lane, Brandon Scheid, Brian Smith and a few others. Although kiteskating isn’t my first choice it was still a fun shoot.

Kiteboarding Magazine Nov 09

The latest issue of Kiteboarding Magazine, Nov 2009, arrived. One of my favorite kites shots I’ve taken thus far showed up in this issue. It was a shot for the shoot with Dre and Slezy. The shot is of Dre pressing on the barrel at just past sunset. It took us nearly 3 days to get the shot how I wanted it. Thanks to Jason and Dre for their hard work during those sessions.

There is also a shot of slezy in there from our trip to Montauk, NY. We dragged the kicker all the way up there for what turned out to be a very light two hour session. But it was worth it…

Shooting with Tracy Kraft

Its not often I get photos of myself riding, let alone some unique and amazing shots at that. Tracy Kraft a Maui Photographer was in Cape Hatteras earlier this summer as she does most summers. I rode for a bit, with dre, norman, slezy and steen, while she was testing out a new concept for shooting. She was finally able to send over the shots of me. I thought they turned out fantastically well (but then again who doesn’t love shots of themselves) So, thanks Tracy and please take a moment to look through her site she has some amazing work, HERE.

Weekend Review

It was a pretty short weekend. I wound up working Saturday as REAL hosted the Naish Summer Standup Race. I was there taking pictures. Real also hosted REAL Demo Daze and Party Nights.

There were a bunch of people in town, so there was a great turn out. The wind wasn’t all to great but they got out on big kites. That night Lane’s band “summer time blues band” played on the back deck. They were great. Everyone had a terrific night.

Sunday was gray, light wind and a slow day. We rounded up a rather massive crew for a very light downwinder on my 14m Havoc and 5’10 fish. Still had a great time with everyone.
