  • Hurricane Bill Swell Day 4

    BRYANELKUS_78227

Yesterday was possibly the best day of swell Cape Hatteras saw from Hurricane Bill. The day, however, did not start off that way, as I headed out at the pier for a session, the waves were disorganized, shifty and very close together.

After catching a couple waves I went home for a break. A storm rolled through as the sun broke for the first time that day I was excited to get out and shoot.

I pulled up to S-Turns to see a crowd of 30 guys and 4-5 photographers already on it. DAMN! I hung out and watched most of the session. I then headed out with Matt Lane and Ryan Evans to another spot to shoot. They both scored a couple fun waves. The current was pretty crazy so i headed in as the light started to fade.

  • Hurricane Bill Swell Day 3

There was little in the way of surfable waves today. I headed out at the crack of dawn to scope out the waves. There was a lot of water moving around and the waves were breaking out to the horizon.

I made it to the Serendipity house around 6:30 where Joey and Brett were getting their sled ready for a toe-in session. It was a pretty chill day with a couple storms that rolled through. After they cleared Mel and I headed to the Rodanthe Pier.

We watched the waves roll under the pier for a bit and then headed back home. Were hoping for some decent waves tomorrow though the current might be too strong. The wind is also suppose to pick up SW so it may also be kiteable in the afternoon.

  • Hurricane Bill Swell Day 2

    BRYANELKUS_77671
Yesterdays am session was non existent. The waves were closing out. I heard that around 9-10 that is started to get good though, perfect, as I had to be at work.

    BRYANELKUS_77614

I headed out for a lunch session at 2 and I had a few great waves. But the best wave I got was during the sunset session with Trevor and rick at the end of my street. It was a couple feet over head and got in a bunch of turns then called it a session and headed in.

There was not much opportunity for photos yesterday. The am didn’t have ride able waves; noon session was insanely foggy due to the cold ocean and warm air. It was a fun day none the less.

Yesterday was the first sign of waves from hurricane Bill. I was at the Pier for sunrise. I had a fun session there on my shortboard and fish. I then shot for a while at the pier, then headed to work.

The waves were head-shoulder high and pretty tough to get into. They however proved in my opinion to be the best session of the Bill swell. I headed out for another surf for lunch. The waves were shoulder and pretty sluggish.

After work I decided to hit up a kite session with Slezy and Brandon. We sessioned the barrel setup that I shot a few weeks back with Slezy and Dre. It was a very fun little session way over powered on the 2010 14m Havoc. Then downwinded back to REAL, where Mojo Collins was playing live on the back deck.

  • Surf, Kite Sessions & New SS Octane

    BRYANELKUS_77145

It was a great day in Hatteras. I started the day off at sunrise at the pier taking pictures then headed to work. I took a quick lunch surf with Chris, DL and some of the crew. It was shin high but still pretty fun.

    BRYANELKUS_77105

Then went back to work. The new 2010 Slingshot Octane came in and to I headed out with Trevor to take a couple shots.

    BRYANELKUS_77350

After that I went up to the slick and took some water shots of the guys riding in the slick. As the sun was setting, I rigged up and headed out for my own session. Sam Perry offered to take a couple shots.

  • Hatteras Update, Swell?

    BRYANELKUS_76888

It has been a while since posting. Things have been getting back in order after REAL Peru 09. I have been surfing every chance I have had since getting back: Dawn patrol, lunch break, and afterwork/sunset session.

All this surfing seems to be paying off as the announcement of Hurricane Bill heading towards the East Coast of the States was sounded. There have been some crazy forecasts in the mix even though the storm is still plenty far away. I’m looking forward to what ever waves we get.
