  • Saturday Surf Session

    BRYANELKUS_66056

Today was a great day of sun and surf. A bunch of us headed down to Frisco on the south side of the island for some extra clear water, sun and a little surf. The surf was quite small but fun.

After hanging out there most of the day we headed back north. I headed to Sea Haven for a surf. It was much bigger than down south: shoulder and mushy. I had some very fun waves, then got out the camera and took a couple shots. A couple of these shots is Jimmy a local ripper.

  • 3 Kitesurfing Sessions

Yesterday was the best day of kitesurfing I can recall in a very long time. It blew NE all day. I woke up for the dawn patrol session. I first headed down to the beach to shoot the sunrise. After that, Rick and I headed up to S-Turns to do a downwinder back to the house. It was fun, slightly underpowered on my 12m Havoc and 5’10 JL Fish. Half way down, I think I might have hit a turtles shell because I got knocked hard off my board and there was a sizey dent in the bottom of the board. The thing was gone by the time I got back to my board. Other than that it was a fun mellow session.

I went in to work and then took a quick session with Tommie at Mac Oca. By then, the waves grew to a much more playful state. I rode my 6’2 LF Rawson quad powered on my 12m. It was a terrific session, though rather short.

I cranked out the rest of the day and then headed back home. We rounded the troops and did another S-Turns to home downwinder. It was even better. The waves started to get some size to them. It was a perfect direction for unhooking and laying out some turns. It was one of my best sessions in a long time! Not to mention scoring three of them in one day…

  • Sea Haven Surf Session

We had an early meeting this morning at work. I cruised in for that and then heard that there was a little wave. I grabbed the camera and headed out for a surf and a shoot in the am. The waves were waist to shoulder and clean. I surfed with a cool family from VB that all surfed, while waiting for my riders to get to the beach.

It was a much needed session as its been a very busy week. I work the rest of the day then tried to head back out for a second surf. The wind clocked around onshore which turned the waves to mush. Mel and Hidey cooked a great dinner and I got to BBQ. A great summer day!

  • 4th of July Weekend Wrap Up

    BRYANELKUS_65098

The fourth of july weekend was full of sessions, good friends and food. After work on Friday we were excited to get into the water. Mel and I headed down to the beach and hung out and waited to Scotty, Jessie and Dominique. We were all so excited that we paddled out in to the ankle to shin high almost breaking waves. It was a terrific sunset from in the water looking back at the island. As the sun set we packed it up and headed back to the house to grab a quick bit before heading out of a party crawl.

We surfed all day on Saturday. Mel and I headed to the beach around 9:30 and the waves were about knee high. We surfed the waves with a family from VB. About an hour later the lineup and the beaches were packed with people. We still had a blast as the waves started to build while the tide continued to pull back. The party was down at Dave Betz’s house, which is conveniently located next to the pier where the fire works are set off.

Sunday I headed back to Sea Haven and paddled into the already packed line up for my shot at some waist high clean waves. I scored a few fun ones before the tide started to really affect the waves. Then it was a well deserved nap for all the weekend’s activities and a family dinner with the roomies and some friends.

I did a couple quick shots for Dave Betz’s interview in this issue of the magazine.

  • Surfer learns to kite and sunset session

    BRYANELKUS_64604

Yesterday, I had the privilege of take a couple pictures of Matt for an article he is working on. Matt is a pro surfer who is learning to kite, and is killing it. He came to REAL with a few hours racked up on a trainer kite and proceeded to learn back rolls on the first day. It was amazing! Sam Bell coached him and clearly knew how to make thing happen. I headed out on a ski to shoot him. He had no problem taking back and forth, transitions and hop to toe side. It was very cool to see. I’m excited to see where matt takes his kiting.

That night I scored a fun session on the JWCF Slider with Slezy, Dre, Steen and Norman. After some hits I put down the kite and grabbed the camera.
