  • July 09 Kiteboarding Mag

    Kiteboarding_July09_Julien profile

The July 2009 Issue of Kiteboarding Magazine recently came out. I had a small shot of Julien from my Hawaii Trip earlier this year. The REAL TEAM Ad also ran in the magazine and it turned out GREAT. I couldn’t be more stoked. I got to do everything from concept to the art and everything in between.

  • Skate at Slezy’s

    BRYANELKUS_41228

Today on my day off I went to work. Sweet! I did however have a great breakfast with my family before my sister and her friend headed back home. Then it was all Triple-S until 7pm. Mel and I headed over to Jason’s to meet up with the crew to shoot some skating. Ed like usual, was killing it, and Davey Blair showed up and skated very well. It was good to see him again. The Triple-s is almost here.

  • Surf Sessions and Live Band

    BRYANELKUS_40913

Saturday was very relaxing. I woke up early to go surf but the tide a a bit too high so a took a few pictures around the sound. I headed up to S-Turns to go surf with Zack a little later in the morning. After a pretty fun surf, I grabbed a quick lunch then we headed to meet up with my family and go to the beach. We hung out on the beach for a while and I paddled out for another surf. It was a fast one but fun. Then we headed back to the house to make lunch and ate it back on the beach.

After lunch I took everyone to REAL to go Standup Paddleboarding. The wind was just starting to pick up a bit, which made things a bit difficult, but everyone was up and riding. We hung out in the backyard at REAL for a while. We headed home to rest for a bit and then headed over to my parents for a killer steak dinner. We headed back over to REAL for Party Nights where Camp-F was playing at Mojo’s Sunset Café.

  • Reef Founders Portrait

    BRYANELKUS_40900

This morning I did a quick shoot with Fernando and Santiago Aguerre, who are the founder of REEF. They were in town staying at Watermen’s Retreat and kiteboarding to their hearts content. Before they headed out I got to take a couple photos of them.

  • New Lens

I got some new gear in yesterday.  I was really looking forward to playing with the fish to super wide lens.  After checking out a quick skate session at Jason’s house, we headed up north and I took some photos along the way.

  • NE Downwinder in Rodanthe

    BRYANELKUS_40418

Yesterday was pretty busy getting ready for the Triple-S. After a long day of work the sun decided to pop out. There was still a little wave left over from yesterday. I headed to the pier and took some pictures.

  • Windy Kiteboarding Session in Hatteras

    BRYANELKUS_40050

It was a rather chilly day on the island today. The rain didn’t stop until the evening. I did a couple shoots. The first was a REAL Riding Girls shot for a magazine. We cranked it out first thing in the morning in the Ladies’ Lounge at REAL.

Then Tony Finn headed into the shop. We took a couple photos with him in the REAL Board Loft. Then it was off to Kite Point to shoot them riding. Tony and Lulu headed out into the sound on tiny kites.

    BRYANELKUS_40118

Lulu was on a 4m and Tony on a 6m. They were doing great until tony drove his kite hard into the water deflating the kite, which prematurely ended the super windy session. Both Lulu and Tony were killing it. It was even better to see Tony motivated to head out in those conditions. Lulu even threw a nice roll-to-revert in the KP Pool (did i mention she was on a 4m).

Julien Fillion and Jason Slezak rigged up for a downwinder on the Oceanside, KP to the Lighthouse. We headed down to the lighthouse to meet up and take some pictures while they rode in. In the grayness loomed a large left wave peeling off the jetty.

Jason and Julien had a couple good hits in the ragging seas. I meet up with Jim, a fellow photog, who was also out shooting. The boys rode for a while then packed it up and we headed back to the Shop.

  • Surf Session and NE Wind Switch

    BRYANELKUS_39273

After the surf and two mega kite sessions yesterday, I was feeling less than energetic. It was defiantly a slow start to the day. The wind blew strong all morning from the SW with an immanent NE change to happen mid day. We took a nice morning bike ride to REAL after breakfast to see what was going on. We didn’t think we had enough time to do a downwinder because of the changing conditions. Then it was to Sea Haven to go for a quick surf. It was fun chest high but a fast breaking wave. Then we hung out at the house waiting for the NE wind. Then we had a great house dinner and had a relaxing evening.

  • Surf and Kite Saturday Sessions

    BRYANELKUS_39180

It was a terrific Saturday here in the Outer Banks of Cape Hatteras. I started the day with a great breakfast, then headed down to the beach for a surf while the storm clouds rolled away. Mel hung out on the beach while Campbell and I headed out into the chest to head high ragging current to surf. I did two laps and called it a session.

    BRYANELKUS_39132

I went home for lunch then headed over to REAL to see how the LF Demo was going. The yard was packed and the skies were clear. We packed my truck with people and gear and headed south to SDA to downwind back to REAL. The wind was perfect 12m for me. By the time I made it back to REAL Jason and Tommie pulled out the JWCF Slider. I hit it a couple times and came in for a quick rest.

    BRYANELKUS_39243

I headed back out and had one of my best slider sessions, even though it was set up switch. As the sunset began to blow up, I headed out with my camera. At just about the exact moment I stepped out into the water, the wind switched directions and everyone tried to make it back in to land. Then everyone hung out for the Havoc Party. It was a perfect day in Cape Hatteras.
