Yesterday was a pretty lax day. Tony Finn Came into town for the Liquid Force Havoc Party. Tony is in part responsible for starting wakeboarding and helps lead LF to this day. After the guys talked for a bit about business we headed out to go surf. Everyone caught a couple fun waves in the mildly strong current. Then it was tech time. Tony, Jason and Julien talked about the 2009 LF Line. We grilled and hung out for the rest of the night.
The REAL Watersports web page received a quick face-lift this week. After JD Media added to our original design to create the ‘08 landing page. We came up with the image above. This layout makes it easier for the user to find what they are looking for. REAL’s four main groups (kite, surf, standup and style) across the top and the more specific pages listed at the bottom of the page. It turned out great now it just needs the functionality incorporated into the site. REAL is also on Twitter follow HERE.
Yesterday was an early one. I headed down for sunrise to Ramp 34 just north of Avon to take a photo for an ad that REAL will be placing in Surfer Magazine. Then the wind picked up SE so I headed to the beach and took a couple photos. After lunch I took a very underpowered session on a 12m and a surfboard. I dropped and inverted my kite twice, but still made it to the beach.
So, I was sitting around with nothing going on, no wind, no surf, just playing on the computer. I ran across a blog post by a snowboard photographer. It talked about the ability to make a picture anywhere any time. I figured I was wasting enough time on the couch. So, I headed over to the pier for what was left of dusk. I took a few pictures to make something of the time.
It was a pretty mellow day over all. We were very busy in the office all day prepping for the Triple-S and other loose ends. The wind never really picked up enough to kite. I grabbed the camera for a couple sunset Standup shots with Eric Nelson. Then I headed over to Slezy’s for a killer group dinner.
The new issue of KiteWorld came out today. I had a product shot of the Influence in there. It was shot to emphasize the channels on the bottom of the board. The Triple-S Invitational Ad also ran again in this issue.
The REAL Kite Team ad is complete! After three photoshoots, lots of brainstorming, and changing of locations it was finished. The shot will be used for an ad in Kiteboarding Magazine. The original version I had envisioned for the shot would have taken about a week to shoot. It would have entailed shooting each person individually at different times of the day, but with the ad being due in 3 days that was not going to be a viable solution.
The next night we shot, Jason, Sam, Brandon, Trevor and Lulu in the back yard. It all went pretty well until we noticed a couple things that needed to be changed. For one, we added a couple more people and then moved locations to satisfy the number of people.
We moved the next nights shoot to the benches in the backyard of REAL. This time I had everything setup and we had the computer there to double-check everything as we had a total of eight people plus me in the photo. It was pretty tough to get a shot where everyone was looking good enough to call it.
We scored the shot we needed and then I spent the rest of the night banging out the ad which was due first thing the next morning, talk about a tight deadline.
Mojo’s Sunset Café’s website is up and running. I worked with Steve to get him up and running with much thanks to Otto. It is a pretty simple site, but it gets the job done. The site offers users a look into Mojos, its menu, up coming events and daily specials via twitter. Take a look at the site and visit Mojo’s while you are in Cape Hatteras, NC.
The wind has been cranking again. I woke up early to help Steve get Mojo’s Website up and running. I was up at 7am and the wind was already at 27knots. I took a quick side-off ocean session with charley. I then headed up to the Slick for some flat water.
Then it was time for some spring-cleaning around the house. Today I officially retired my 4/3mm and 5/4mm wetsuit for the season. I then headed to Slezy and Steve’s to check out the mini ramp in all its glory.
