Today, I received the assignment to create REAL’s first television commercial. Here was the hitch; I had one day to create the ad. I used a couple shots I had taken over the last season to create it. I based the graphics off REAL’s new trifold handout. With the very short amount of time I had to do this, I think it turned out well. This will be playing on a handful of the local cable channels, so when your in Cape Hatteras, NC look for it!
It’s the spring and that means its time for spring cleaning and new décor. Before leaving for the Utah Snowkite Trip I did a massive order for the redecoration of the Retail shop. We redid the front entrance to the shop. The graphics were put up this weekend while I was out of town, and they turned out amazing.
On the left side of the door is the Triple-S ad I did for Kiteboarding magazine. On the left side of the door is the Triple-S invitational list.
The next thing was the entrance from the retail space to the REAL Lesson Center. I tried to go for a simple yet tasteful graphic that wouldn’t be too overwhelming but yet would still give branding to the REAL Lesson Center. The etched glass look turned out killer!
The doors leading from the REAL Lesson Center to the back deck were also done with a full window graphic. We did a couple graphics for the Real Rental Shop as well.
The Watermen’s Retreat doors were done simply with the logo. Above that on the deck was one of my favorite graphics. Its just a REAL logo hit but with some cool detail.
On the back deck we printed up a couple new banners. One being the Triple-S invitational list and the REAL PERU Trip.
Those of us that were left on the SLC Snowkite Trip, Jason Slezak, Tekko, Petter Johnsen, Julien Fillion and myself headed to breakfast at the same great resturant as the previous day. We hung out after, to decide where our next move was, back to the back country or head back to Powder Mountain. While that was going on, I grabbed the guys and got a couple shots behind the restaurant.
We decided to head back up into the Utah backcountry. We pumped up and grabbed a couple lifestyle shots, as there was no wind. After doing some lifestyle shots we headed to this community park to ride and shoot. Jason and Petter had some cool hits on the kickers.
After that a storm started to roll in so we headed back up the mountain and pumped up kites again. We were able to get a couple lightwind kite shots. As a killer sunset rolled in the wind slowly died out. The sunset was a fantastic way to end the Trip. Jason, Julien and I headout from SLC tomorrow morning, and its back to Hatteras where I hear there is a pretty decent swell.
It was an amazing trip, one that I will not soon forget. I meet a few great new friends, and meet up with old ones. We scored great conditions, 5 star shots, made my first kite expeditions, and had the best time, all on 3-4 hours of sleep a night. I’ll miss the mountains but am more than excited for a decent bed and a warm shower until next time.

The crew woke up and headed across the street for breakfast. We packed up the cars went to the store and got some food then headed up the mountain. We hung out and waited for the wind. We meet a couple cool local riders like Chris Nester.
We were able to get in a couple good rides before it died out. The wind picked back up and we headed to a different peak and rigged. It never really picked up but we were able to build up another kicker if the wind turns on tomorrow.

KITEWORLD also showed up with the Jason Slezak on the Cover! It was nice to see this shot run on a cover after all that the crew went through to score this shot. John Bilderback and Jason Worked extra hard to grab this shots and it is nice to see Jason back on the cover after so long.
This shot of Eric Rienstra during my trip to Maui, Hawaii. This was taken at the infamous kite beach. Eric has been killing it and it was great to finally see him ride in person.
Kiteboarding Magazine Releases its 10th year anniversary issue. Lou Wainman scored the well-deserved cover shot by Tracey Kraft.
REAL ran an ad congratulating the magazine on ten years. I shot this shot with the help of Jason Slezak, Matt Nuzzo and Trip Forman. The shot was supposed to be taken for the article on Matt and Tip in the issue. We chose a different shot to use in the ad. Layout by JD.
The Triple-S ad also ran in this issue. With input for Jason Slezak and Chris Stephany, I was able to crank this one out in record time.
We woke up early sore as can be after our “day or rest”. We packed up all the gear and loaded all the vehicles to head to Strawberry Reservoir. Jason, Llew, Kristy and Myself hopped into Tekko’s van for the 2+ hour journey.
We stopeed by Arla’s place in Park City to pick up another box of goodies from Dakine. Then we were off to Strawberry Reservoir. We met up with the Best Crew, Jake, Shannon and Gavin. There wasn’t very much wind, but Jason Slezak and I were able to bang out a couple shots we needed. Aaron Sales tested out some kites and boards whiel there was enough wind.
The wind slowly died as the sun set. We hung out with a couple beers and chilled. It was food time. We drove to nearly every food place in Heber where nothing was open, until the Chinese food place we pulled up to. The sign said open as we saw someone bolting to turn off the close sign. Luckily Tekko was already inside getting us a table. We made a last minute decision to trek out to Utah backcountry.

Today was suppose to be rest day. There was little wind, so we decided to “take it easy”. Taking it easy as part of the LF Crew is far different than most would think. The day started off a little later around 10am. We then packed the crew up to go to Wolf Mountain to go snowboarding.
It was a smaller mountain with only two lifts, but some fun snow and a great group of friends made it an amazing session. We took laps down one of the hills to the park and hit the kickers and the rails, and did it all over again all morning and afternoon. Jason Slezak and Petter Johnsen were throwing down on the kicker. The snow was soft and a little slushy making it great for trying new tricks.
We ran back to the condos to change for our appointment at the Flowrider. The Flowrider is a standing wave that you surf or boogie board on. Tyler hooked it up with a free and closed session. It was a blast. Everyone had a great time shreading and taking the best wipeouts on the trip.
To end off the day of relaxation we headed to I Fly Utah to go indoor skydiving. The crew had the best time. After a short class on how to fly it was go time. Everyone got two one-minute rides in the tunnel. The staff then put on a bit of a show, pretty much blowing our minds soaring up and down the tunnel with ease.
We grabbed a quick dinner across the street and headed back to the condo. We did a quick review of the photos from the day and had some great laughs and then headed to bed.
