  • Chilly S-Turns Kite Sesison

Today was my first kite session of 2009. The wind switched around North today and started to crank. Dave, Otto and I headed up to S-Turns. It was blowing about 20 knots. I rode my 12m Boss and my LF Quad in the foot to two-foot high waves. It was still a very fun couple hour session. Well, until the end where I was trying some front side airs when my lines went slack and then wrapped around the opposite side of the bar sending the kite into a death spiral.

The next think I know I’m getting pulled sideways across the beach, thinking it’s a good thing I wave a wetsuit on. Ok I was really thinking that when I looked down I saw my leash release and just went for it. I ditched the kite and it rolled twice and then landed safely in the sand. After that I called it a day.

  • Sunset Portrait

    BRYANELKUS_19898

There was another terrific sunset in Cape Hatteras tonight. I grabbed Eric Nelson for a quick portrait after the sun was down giving a nice glowing sky with amazingly textured sky as a background. The shots did not turn out quite how I was planning. The light was harsher than i had envisioned, and should have tried to drop the ambient light a hair more. But, it did give me a couple other ideas for shots in the future.

  • 2008 REAL Sales Rep

    BRYANELKUS_19907

This was a quick project for REAL’s best Sales Rep for 2008. I took a classic Bilderback shot and added a bit of text. We printed it out and put it in a nice frame and shipped it off.

  • Liquid Force Kites | Product Shot

    FL_InfluenceShot

A product shot that I took showed up on the Liquid Force kiteboarding site. The photograph is a picture of Jason Slezak’s new promodel board The Influence. This was taken a few months ago of one of Jason’s prototypes.

  • Todi USA Header

    Todi_Index_Surf

Todi USA recently picked up a couple images for their homepage. Todi is an athletic footwear company. They are marketed towards athletes. The shoes look nice and I hear are quite comfortable. The two shots they choose are a surfing and kiteboarding image. The ktieboarding shot of Evan was taken in The Slick. The thick barrel surfing shot was taken at the First Jetty at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.

  • Snowkiting in Cape Hatteras

    BRYANELKUS_19733

It snowed all afternoon yesterday. Yes I’m back in Cape Hatteras and it snowed. Not only did it snow, but it started to stick. We all got excited about the opportunity to snowkite in the morning if there was enough snow. I woke up early and met dave and Tommie at SDA to check it out. It looked doable, though there really wasn’t a lot of snow.

    BRYANELKUS_19777

There was a nice thin layer of hardened snow/ice as a base layer, which made the kiting decent, but the roads very slippery (good for fishtailing and donuts). Dave and I pumped up and rode for a little. I rode the 12 Liquid Force Hifi, and Dave was on The BEST 09 Nemi HP. We were all a little sketched out about riding at SDA with all the cacti, but it had to be done. It was a blast, but more than that it was crazy that we were snowkiting in Cape Hatteras.

I didn’t have enough. I spotted a picnic table at the morning session that I have been very excited to session in the water with a wakeboard, but the snow will do. Chris and I headed out during lunch to session the table. The snow was quickly melting but I had to do it. I took a couple hits on the table and called it a day.

  • Snow in Hatteras, again

    BRYANELKUS_19671

It snowed again today in Hatteras. Not only did it snow, but it also started sticking. It has been cold and windy with this front rolling through. We have accumulated about 1-2 inches thus far. Were hoping to get in a snowkite session in the morning if the snow continues.

  • Updated ’09 REAL Shipping Box

    BRYANELKUS_19622

The newly updated REAL Shipping boxes have arrived at REAL. The new design reflects REAL’s brand change from REAL Kiteboarding to REAL Watersports. The name, logo, website and address were changed to give a fresher look this year. No specifications were changed during this update; it was solely a physical adaptation. Due to limitations brought forward, the design, space and layout of the graphic was limited.
