Chest High Ocean Kitesurfing
The wind has still been on full blast since the beginning of Spring in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. The REAL Crew headed to ramp 23 for an Oceanside kitesurfing downwinder. The waves were fun about chest high and the guys were on 7 and 9m kites.

Liquid Force Photo Shoot 2012
The Liquid Force Global Team will be headed to Cabo Verde this week to take part in the annual product photo shoot. After the 2011 Liquid Force Photo Shoot, I’m really looking forward to spending more time and shooting with this great group of talented people. Cabo Verde is located off the West coast of Africa. You can learn more about Cabo Verde wiki page. I will try and have updates if we get an Internet connection situated.

Spring OBX Kiteboarding
It has seemingly been non-stop windy in The Outer Banks for the last 2 weeks. With Springtime in the air, tourists have flooded the national seashores. We have been busy taking as many kiteboarding sessions as possible, while the spring conditions last.

Ben Wilson Surf in Hatteras
Ben Wilson and CEO of Ben Wilson Surf (BWS), Bruce Exton, made their way to Cape Hatteras, NC during a tour of the East Coast of the United States. REAL Team Riders Matt Keenan and Pro Surfer and Kiteboarder Josh Mulcoy of Santa Cruz also joined them for 4 days of riding on the island. They brought their new kite the BWS Noise. We had a great time with the crew and scored some really fun sessions.
The first day was very windy, so windy I wound up riding a 5m BWS Noise during the REAL Watersports/BWS demo. It wasn’t a very fair test of the kite in the gusty side off conditions. We then headed to the south side of the island for some onshore kiting. The wind was much lighter down there. The guys were riding 8m + 10m kites and comfortable in spring suits. The waves were fun but nothing special.
The next day we again headed to Hatteras. The waves were a bit larger but with a shorter period. Josh, Ben and Matt were charging in the surf. Ben and Josh blew everyone away with their power, style and airs.
The gear was great. I really enjoyed riding the 8m BWS Noise. The bar was my favorite part of the setup. It is a very simple setup and just works. The kite turns very quickly, and overall I had a great time riding it in the waves and wouldn’t hesitate to take one for another session.

Kitesurfing Rodanthe
It was again windy today. I went for two ocean-side Kiteboarding sessions today. The first one at lunch, it was blowing 23 as we packed all the gear. By the time we made it to S-Turns it dropped 10 knots! It was a pretty rough ride as it was difficult to be in the right place when you were that under powered.
The evening session was fun! We went to Lulu’s house where Jason, Brandon, Sammy, Lulu and Tommie all rode for a while, until the current was too strong and then went down the coast a bit to my house and called it a day. Both sessions I rode the 2011 Liquid Force 8m Havoc and my Surftech 6’1 board.
Thanks for the photos Mel!

Kiteboarding Magazine May 2011
The new issue of Kiteboarding Magazine arrived at the shop earlier this week. Here are some of the shots that made it in.

Scheid in The Kiteboarder
his photograph of Kiteboarder Brandon Scheid appeared in The Kiteboarder Magazine. Brandon is nose pressing the Liquid Force Wall Ride during the 2011 LF product shoot. This is a very difficult technical trick, which requires the rider to jump off the water onto the wall and instead of displacing their weight equally, they have to lean forward and place the majority of the weight on the front foot.

Spring is (almost) Here
Jason Slezak, Laura Lulu Vroman, Sam Bell and Matt Nuzzo headed out for a kiteboarding session. It was warm SW winds so no booties, gloves or hoods needed! We took out the rooftop rail for a couple hits. After the guys/gal were done ridding, I took Jason’s Kite for a few minutes as he pulled in the slider.
