A couple buddies of mine from MI rolled into Hatteras on Saturday morning at 6am. We headed down to Diamond Shoals for some breakfast. Then it was straight to Kite Point to session. We rode there from 8am to 3pm straight. I took a hand full of sessions at KP and then walked across the street to the ocean and took a very fun ocean session in head high clean surf. Then it was back to KP for a very powered wake session. I also tested the new blade kites as well as the 2009 Helix. We headed back to my place to grill out. Then it was to Dave Loop’s (who is in town for the week) and rode the new 2009 Fuel.

2009 Havoc and Influence Shoot
Jason Slezak, Brandon Scheid and myself headed down to Kite Point to shoot a shot video. While we were down there I got to test some of the new Liquid Force 2009 Kite gear. I rode Jason’s 10m 2009 Havoc and his proto 138cm Influence. I really enjoyed both the kite and the board. The proto was much looser than the mission. It also went up wind much better. The Havoc felt like it turned a little more like a “C” Kite does. It also seemed to turn a little faster than the 2008s.
After the testing I shot a couple pics of Brandon, Trevor and Lulu in the KP Pool.

The Kiteboarder, Novermber
The Kiteboarding has also come in hot from the Trade Show in Florida. There are a few shots of mine in this issue, but I was most excited for Lulu’s profile to be published. We worked extremely hard to get a killer shot for her profile but it never seemed to flow right. We were able to get a couple good ones but not the one we both were looking for. Her model shot was one of the first times I played with remote strobes and it worked out rather well. The other image of lulu (the ralley) was taken up in the slick before this mega squall came through. I’m so glad I sent her back in when I saw the lightning cause if she was out another 15 minutes things could have gotten ungly.
The shot of the girls from the Triple-S was one of my favorites from that week. It shows all the fun that went on that week. The shot of Neil kiting with the water skis was also taken during the Triple-S. The shot of Nick hitting the JWCF Slider is a classic; you have to fall a couple times before you nail the trick. The last shot is just a head shot but it’s a shot of Sam with quite the mustache.

Kiteboarding, November 08 Issue
Another
twomissed session turned worthwhile. The November issue of Kiteboarding Magazine came out this week. I got a couple more shots in this time around. The first shot is of Jason Slezak. It is a sequence shot of him going of the kicker, nose tapping two stacked barrels and landing to blind (not the easiest trick in the book). I shot this with the 200mm lens from the water. The last few shots are of Sam Bell. The mission was to capture two shots of Sam. One shot of him doing a Stalefish grab and the other a Method grab. It was quick and easy with Sam we got the shots pretty quickly once we found the right angle of light to wind direction and location.

Labor Day Weekend
My good buddy Tom came up for a visit this weekend. It was a weekend of surfing, kiting, beaching, eating and chilling out. Saturday we took 4 surf sessions and topped it off with a wakeboard session on the REAL kicker. Sunday we surfed in the morning had a mega downwinder. I did my first crossing of the Oregon Inlet. With 2-3 feet overhead waves and perfectly powered on a 12m havoc, made for a terrific session (well for some of us).

Epic Kite Mag Summer 08
The summer 2008 issue of the Epic Kite Mag has been released today. Epic is a Great Lakes Kiteboarding specific online magazine. My rider and photographer profile is at the end of this issue. Not only did i have the opportunity to have my profile run, but i was able to do all of the design and layout. Nate Appel of Lost Board Productions put a short clip of me riding together from the beginning of the season. Check it!

Shooting with Dre
Dre and I headed out once again to grab some photos while he is still here. We took out the JWCF Slider on 7/27 to try a couple new ideas. The session wound up going sour to say the least. But I was able to grab a couple shots.
On 7/29 I headed up to the slick to shoot with Sam Bell to grab a couple photos he wanted, then hung out and shot with Brandon and a couple other riders who were up there, and scored a very cool nuclear-glide shot. We headed out to the goofy pool of The Slick to shoot with the REAL Kicker. I grabbed a couple keepers and nearly took Dre’s wakeskate to the chest. Here are a couple shots from the session:

Barrel Session I & II Wrap up
Andre Philip, Jason Slezak and Brandon Scheid defiantly walked away from the Barrel Session I and Barrel Session II with some “keepers”. Each of them scored at least one terrific shot that were all very excited about. Dre and Slezy each grabbed a pretty cool sequence shot. We have come up with more plans to further the progression of the Barrel Sessions. However, it looks as though we will have to wait until the weather goes back to normal from the hurricane Bertha. Below are a couple sample shots from the two sessions.
