A large storm hit the middle of Michigan that dropped between 8-12″ of snow. Lucky for us, the wind was suppose to be up the next morning. We had a great session for a couple hours before the wind died. There were endless piles of powered on the lake.

Snowkiting in Michigan
We have not had the snow that we did last year, as of yet. But, we were lucky this past weekend to have great conditions come together for a few great snowkite sessions. The lake had 4-10″ of ice and the snow was about 4-6″ which was just enough to grip. The winds were great the first day and a little gusty during the second session. We also made a few new kiters too! We all had a great time out there.
Here is a quick clip from Edgar:

A Summer Lake Michigan Swell
We were given an unexpected mid-summer swell on Wednesday. Mel and I hit the road to South Haven. Though it was blowing 20 knots, we arrived to a rather calm Lake Michigan.
The wind increased though out the day and shifting more NW than the NNE that it was when we arrived. This caused the waves built too. After kiting most of the day, I grabbed a couple of waves surfing before we headed home.

Elk Rapids Kiteboarding Adventure
I finally got to ride where Mel took her first kiteboarding lesson. It was a spectacular day! We made our way to Elk Rapids, Michigan to find the kiting location. the kite spot was over a mile away from the vehicles. We packed our gear and started the journey through a trail in the woods until we reached the sandy shores of East Bay. From there we paddled north to the point.
The wind was light when we arrived. I kited on the standup board for 30-45 minutes until the wind picked up to perfect 12m conditions. I played in the pool for a bit. It was great to ride in flat water again! We got Mel out and cruising for a while and we rode until the end of the day. It was a very long journey back to the cars but well worth it! Thanks to Edgar for shooting.

Spring Kite at Sterling State Park
I had a great solo session at Sterling State Park. It was really windy today blowing 30-35 knots as I rode my 7m kite. The waves were only waist-high a bit smaller than I expected, after a 12+ hour blow. With the temp. around 50 degrees and water not to chilly, it made for a fun early spring session. I rode for a couple of hours trying to get my board skills back after a long snowy winter. I took a couple really good tumbles too.

Exploring the Frozen Lake Michigan Coast
Casey and I headed to Muskegon to meet up with Marc to explore the frozen Lake Michigan with kites. Before we hit the coast, Casey and I headed to Muskegon lake to get him up and riding for the first time. He did amazing! He went upwind and even got a transition in.
After we sessoning for a few hours we hit the coast for a sunset session. The ice buildup on the lake was absolutely amazing! It was as if there was a big swell that instantly froze in place. There were large mounds of ice then a football field of flat then another mound and so on until the open water.
We cruised up and down the coast for a couple miles exploring the terrain. It was an absolute blast. Thanks to Casey for taking photos while I was kiting!

Snowkiting in Ann Arbor
It was a great day of snowkiting in Michigan. The ice was thick with a few inches of snow on top. The sun was out helping to keep the temps bearable. The guys rode for hours cruising the lake.

Knee-high kickers in Florida
The wind cranked in Deerfield Beach, FL. Some of the family took a couple hours to go with me to the beach. Consistent sets small waves come through creating a great playground to explore. It was great being back in salt water. I was perfectly powered on the 12m Envy.
PS. Thanks for the photos dad!
