  • Kiteboarding Metro Beach, MI

It was a nukefest in the midwest today. The wind was cranking, easily over 30 knots inland. By the time I made it to Lake St Clair, the wind was 35-50. I pumped up my brand new 7m Liquid Force Envy with a short line bar and headed out for a session. I was still really powered on that setup, which left the rest of the crew sitting on the beach waiting for the wind to die down a little, but it never came. Not the best day out kiting but it sure was great to get on the water!

  • Spring In Traverse City, MI

We had a great time up in Traverse City MI this weekend. It was an amazing weather, warm and sunny.

  • Kiteboarding Lake St. Clair

We had a terrific time yesterday kiting in early spring conditions on Lake St. Clair. The small crew meet up in the afternoon and rode for a few hours in the cloudy fall looking day. The wind was cranking, people were riding 9m-12m kites. This secret location reminded me a lot of the New Inlet Downwinder in the Outer Banks. There were miles of buttery flat water and small islands to ride around and jump over. This place is really cool! I can’t wait to hit it in some warmer temperatures!

  • Early Spring in Ann Arbor

The early stages of spring have shown in mid Michigan. Mel and I ventured in to the Ann Arbor arboretum for the first time. It was still a bit early for the plant life but looking forward to going back!

  • Leelanau, MI Adventure

We spent the day in Leelanau, MI. We drove around to great spots overlooking Lake Michigan. It was a little chilly and overcast, but we had a great time hiking around. Here are a couple pictures from our adventure in Northern Michigan.

  • A Brest Bay Mission

We had a terrific Kiteboarding session on Sunday south of Detroit. The wind was cranking and it was 64 degrees, but some of my old buddies called and said it was on. I packed up the truck and drove to Brest Bay.

It was ominous pulling up to the lake with two massive power plants along the shore and the sunny skies rapidly turning to dark and cloudy. The water was a mucky brown color. It’s pretty sad to see the environment in this condition on a daily bases.

Nonetheless, we pumped up and had a terrific session until my feet got too numb to land anymore tricks. A big thanks to Agata and Joel for shooting some of the photos you see below…

  • Kiteboarding Michigan with Scheid

I meet up with kiteboarders Brandon Scheid and Sensi Graves for a weekend of Michigan kiteboarding. The first day we headed to Montague. We meet up with a few other kiters and headed out by the jetty. The waves were small but fun. Everyone made it out for a few hours in the chilly south wind. We wound up riding until dark and headed back to Brandon’s for the night.

The next day we missioned it North to Frankfort to meet up with the crew. There were about a dozen riders already out riding when we arrived. The waves were shoulder high and it was windy! Brandon pumped up and we tried to get on it before the clouds socked us in but we were a little late. We still managed to get a couple shots as Brandon jibbed the massive jetty in nuking conditions. I had a really fun session after shooting, until it got so windy I was blown off the 7m and we called it a day.

  • A Muskegon Mission

The work week came to an end and the wind was suppose to be up on Lake Michigan. So, I meet up with Kreg and Amer and headed West. The truck, gear and about everything was coated in frost, which was a tough way to start our adventure. We made it across the state to find offshore conditions. We made the best of it but no kite sessions…

  • First Surf on Lake Michigan

We had a terrific weekend riding Lake Michigan. We rode at Muskegon Pier all day. I met up with Marc and Brad. I paddled out for the first time in the Lake, and I caught my first wave. It was a right and made 6-8 turns which pretty much made my day! Then we pumped up and went kiting for the next few hours. The waves were chest to head high and the wind was around 30 knots. We had a great session as the sun started to fall in the sky the wind picked up to 35-40 knots, which became too much for me so I surf for a while longer before calling it quits.

I crashed with Brad and his family and headed back to the coast in the morning. The wind shifted West overnight, which made the wind and waves very sloppy. Marc knew of this “secret” spot that was small but fun on the logs. We long longboarded for 3-4 hours. It was another great weekend on the water.
