  • Reef Founders Portrait

    BRYANELKUS_40900

This morning I did a quick shoot with Fernando and Santiago Aguerre, who are the founder of REEF. They were in town staying at Watermen’s Retreat and kiteboarding to their hearts content. Before they headed out I got to take a couple photos of them.

  • New Lens

I got some new gear in yesterday.  I was really looking forward to playing with the fish to super wide lens.  After checking out a quick skate session at Jason’s house, we headed up north and I took some photos along the way.

  • Surf and Kite Saturday Sessions

    BRYANELKUS_39180

It was a terrific Saturday here in the Outer Banks of Cape Hatteras. I started the day with a great breakfast, then headed down to the beach for a surf while the storm clouds rolled away. Mel hung out on the beach while Campbell and I headed out into the chest to head high ragging current to surf. I did two laps and called it a session.

I went home for lunch then headed over to REAL to see how the LF Demo was going. The yard was packed and the skies were clear. We packed my truck with people and gear and headed south to SDA to downwind back to REAL. The wind was perfect 12m for me. By the time I made it back to REAL Jason and Tommie pulled out the JWCF Slider. I hit it a couple times and came in for a quick rest.

I headed back out and had one of my best slider sessions, even though it was set up switch. As the sunset began to blow up, I headed out with my camera. At just about the exact moment I stepped out into the water, the wind switched directions and everyone tried to make it back in to land. Then everyone hung out for the Havoc Party. It was a perfect day in Cape Hatteras.

  • At REAL with Tony Finn

    BRYANELKUS_39009

Yesterday was a pretty lax day. Tony Finn Came into town for the Liquid Force Havoc Party. Tony is in part responsible for starting wakeboarding and helps lead LF to this day. After the guys talked for a bit about business we headed out to go surf. Everyone caught a couple fun waves in the mildly strong current. Then it was tech time. Tony, Jason and Julien talked about the 2009 LF Line. We grilled and hung out for the rest of the night.

  • Dusk Pier Shoot

    BRYANELKUS_38660

So, I was sitting around with nothing going on, no wind, no surf, just playing on the computer. I ran across a blog post by a snowboard photographer. It talked about the ability to make a picture anywhere any time. I figured I was wasting enough time on the couch. So, I headed over to the pier for what was left of dusk. I took a few pictures to make something of the time.

  • REAL Kite Team Shoot

The REAL Kite Team ad is complete! After three photoshoots, lots of brainstorming, and changing of locations it was finished. The shot will be used for an ad in Kiteboarding Magazine. The original version I had envisioned for the shot would have taken about a week to shoot. It would have entailed shooting each person individually at different times of the day, but with the ad being due in 3 days that was not going to be a viable solution.

The next night we shot, Jason, Sam, Brandon, Trevor and Lulu in the back yard. It all went pretty well until we noticed a couple things that needed to be changed. For one, we added a couple more people and then moved locations to satisfy the number of people.

We moved the next nights shoot to the benches in the backyard of REAL. This time I had everything setup and we had the computer there to double-check everything as we had a total of eight people plus me in the photo. It was pretty tough to get a shot where everyone was looking good enough to call it.

We scored the shot we needed and then I spent the rest of the night banging out the ad which was due first thing the next morning, talk about a tight deadline.

  • SW All Day JWCF Slider Session

    BRYANELKUS_35107

It was another crazy day of riding. The crew headed over to KHKs for a little race action with the KITEus guys who are in town. I didn’t race as there was not a lot of wind. I rode a little flat water in front of their shop, while Steiner took a couple shots.

    BRYANELKUS_35197

After a quick bite to eat we headed over to REAL, and again pulled out the JWCF Slider. We had a really long session on the slider. Sam, David, Craig, Brian, Ryan and I had an amazing session. Tran and Drinkwater put down their kites for a little photo and video.

    BRYANELKUS_35401

After that session, we took a bit of a break and headed back out for a sunset slider session. Tran and Baines helped me out with flashes. It was a great session. The boys were riding well, as the night drew darker and the wind continued to pick up.

It took a little before the wind picked up a bit. We had great session out front of REAL. We took a break for lunch then rode again out front of REAL. Tran took a couple pics of me during the second session. For sunset we headed up to the Slick.

    DGT_3818

We didn’t think the sunset was going to happen but we packed up the gear and headed up anyways. It turned out to be classic Hatteras sunset. It was a great long day of kiting with a lot of good riders.

  • A Warm Nice Day in Hatteras

    BRYANELKUS_33417

Well it was a great day in Hatteras today. Light winds, sunny, warm and clear. I started to day off right today. I got up for the sunrise. I walked down to the beach in time for the sun to peak over the horizon. The small waves made a soothing melody as I headed north on the beach taking pictures. I headed back to the house to get ready for work.

It was a pretty busy day finalizing and shooting more pictures for the 4 ads that we had due today. I spent all night working on the REAL Kite Team ad for Kiteboarding Magazine. More on that to come in a different post.

I then grabbed a quick very light wind session in the backyard of REAL on my 14m Havoc and the WLF. It was a pretty fun session before it died. I then headed to the campground to take a couple pictures of the sunset before dinner. It was a terrific day.
