Session with Robby Naish

Today was a great day. Although it was gray and I had to go into work on a Saturday for a little, I was still able to grab two session. The first session was a downwinder from The Ranger Station back to the house. It was a very fun session though I was WAY over powered on my 12m and surfboard. The waves were messy and about head high. Scott, Carrie, Neil, Corey and a guy from Nag Head came with. Greg Waller and Robby Naish were going to meet us there, but they took a bit to long so we headed out without them.

After going back to the office for a few hours, I headed back out to the Ranger Station. This time we had a crew. I got to session with Robby Naish as well as most of the crew (Greg, Matt, Trip, Julien, Tommy, Sam, Brandon, Brian, Rick and more). It was a terrific session that eventually got a little crowded. The waves we not to pretty but we all had a blast and all scored some goot hacks. That was defiantly one of the best session in the last few weeks.

Trip to Michigan

The past week I headed back to Michigan. It was a good trip, though it turned a bit chilly. I was able to be with both family and friends. I scored a wake session on the Grand River, while Melissa took a couple pics. I also did a very quick group shot of the Michigan State University Water Ski and Wakeboard Team before the home coming parade.

Sunset Wakeboard Session

I was about to head up to the airport to head home for vacation when i stepped out of work and saw the sunset and some of the guys out wakeboarding. Billy Barker, Andy Hurdman and some of their friends were out riding in the backyard of REAL. They had both the REAL Kicker and the JWCF Slider out. I hung out and watched the guys ripping it up. I grabbed my camera as soon the sunset got good. Mike from FL was out riding and throwing ollie threes over the dock. I ran back to my truck to get the strobes and booties to trudge through the muck in the Sound. I was very excited to get at least one decent action shot out of the night and a couple portraits of some friends..

MI in Hatteras

A couple buddies of mine from MI rolled into Hatteras on Saturday morning at 6am. We headed down to Diamond Shoals for some breakfast. Then it was straight to Kite Point to session. We rode there from 8am to 3pm straight. I took a hand full of sessions at KP and then walked across the street to the ocean and took a very fun ocean session in head high clean surf. Then it was back to KP for a very powered wake session. I also tested the new blade kites as well as the 2009 Helix. We headed back to my place to grill out. Then it was to Dave Loop’s (who is in town for the week) and rode the new 2009 Fuel.

2009 Havoc and Influence Shoot

Jason Slezak, Brandon Scheid and myself headed down to Kite Point to shoot a shot video. While we were down there I got to test some of the new Liquid Force 2009 Kite gear. I rode Jason’s 10m 2009 Havoc and his proto 138cm Influence. I really enjoyed both the kite and the board. The proto was much looser than the mission. It also went up wind much better. The Havoc felt like it turned a little more like a “C” Kite does. It also seemed to turn a little faster than the 2008s.

After the testing I shot a couple pics of Brandon, Trevor and Lulu in the KP Pool.

The Kiteboarder, Novermber

The Kiteboarding has also come in hot from the Trade Show in Florida. There are a few shots of mine in this issue, but I was most excited for Lulu’s profile to be published.

We worked extremely hard to get a killer shot for her profile but it never seemed to flow right. We were able to get a couple good ones but not the one we both were looking for. Her model shot was one of the first times I played with remote strobes and it worked out rather well. The other image of lulu (the ralley) was taken up in the slick before this mega squall came through. I’m so glad I sent her back in when I saw the lightning cause if she was out another 15 minutes things could have gotten ungly.

The shot of the girls from the Triple-S was one of my favorites from that week. It shows all the fun that went on that week. The shot of Neil kiting with the water skis was also taken during the Triple-S. The shot of Nick hitting the JWCF Slider is a classic; you have to fall a couple times before you nail the trick. The last shot is just a head shot but it’s a shot of Sam with quite the mustache.

Slick Dress Up Party

It was a party in The Slick on Sunday. A bunch of us took a Planet run in the morning. After riding all morning I decided to just take some pictures. Since it had been a long time since i had taken pictures of kiteboaring. We brought out all the costumes and spent the afternoon in the Slick playing. It was a great time and we walked a way with a couple original and fun shots.

Sunset SUP Session

It was looking like there was going to be another classic Cape Hatteras sunset. It didn’t quite deliver to that level but it was good. A bunch of the crew went out for a flat-water Standup Paddle behind REAL during the sunset. I wanted to grab a couple shots. None of the shots really turned out the way I had envisioned them too. I still walked a way with a couple fun shots.

Claire 80s Prom Part1

Tonight, I shot with Claire. I shot here at same location I shot Lou just for ease of use and the fact there was a much different sky than the was when I shot Lou (and because i really liked the beams). Shot only a couple frames before the mosquitoes became too much and had to wrap things up. I am planning on doing a 80s prom dress shoot with Claire and Lulu. I wanted to have a page split between a fashion shot (with dress and a board or kite) and a kiteboarding shot with the dresses on.
