  • Hurricane Bill Swell

    BRYANELKUS_77361

Yesterday was the first sign of waves from hurricane Bill. I was at the Pier for sunrise. I had a fun session there on my shortboard and fish. I then shot for a while at the pier, then headed to work.

The waves were head-shoulder high and pretty tough to get into. They however proved in my opinion to be the best session of the Bill swell. I headed out for another surf for lunch. The waves were shoulder and pretty sluggish.

After work I decided to hit up a kite session with Slezy and Brandon. We sessioned the barrel setup that I shot a few weeks back with Slezy and Dre. It was a very fun little session way over powered on the 2010 14m Havoc. Then downwinded back to REAL, where Mojo Collins was playing live on the back deck.

  • Evening Surf at S-Turns

    BRYANELKUS_67079

There was little in the way of wind yesterday. In fact it was a pretty ugly day as a massive storm tracked across the radar. It only rained a bit here, but remained gray and depressing. Some of the guys talked about heading out for a kite session after work in the light onshore winds but I decided it wasn’t going to happen.

I headed back home when I got a call from Scotty who said they were heading out to surf at S-Turns. So I headed up there. I put the housings together to try and get some surf shots. The waves were very small but happening. Scott, Rick and I showed up to see Matt Lane already in the water and getting mini barrels.

The guys switched off helping me hold the flash while the others surfed. There are a couple fun shots, though nothing terrific, but I see the potential fore sure. As we were heading out of the water from our session, the sky broke open to revile a fantastic sunset. I took a couple pics of Scotty and rick and then called it a night.

  • Saturday Surf Session

    BRYANELKUS_66056

Today was a great day of sun and surf. A bunch of us headed down to Frisco on the south side of the island for some extra clear water, sun and a little surf. The surf was quite small but fun.

After hanging out there most of the day we headed back north. I headed to Sea Haven for a surf. It was much bigger than down south: shoulder and mushy. I had some very fun waves, then got out the camera and took a couple shots. A couple of these shots is Jimmy a local ripper.

We had an early meeting this morning at work. I cruised in for that and then heard that there was a little wave. I grabbed the camera and headed out for a surf and a shoot in the am. The waves were waist to shoulder and clean. I surfed with a cool family from VB that all surfed, while waiting for my riders to get to the beach.

    BRYANELKUS_65390

It was a much needed session as its been a very busy week. I work the rest of the day then tried to head back out for a second surf. The wind clocked around onshore which turned the waves to mush. Mel and Hidey cooked a great dinner and I got to BBQ. A great summer day!

  • Real in Montauk, NY

    BRYANELKUS_63173

It was a long weekend of Surfing, Standup Paddleboarding and partying. We stayed at the East Deck in Montauk for the REAL Alumni Retreat. I shot and rode three times each day. It was a total blast. Montauk has some very nice local surfers. We had a great little swell the first two days. The waves were waist to chest and head high on the sets. It was a great longboarding wave, because it was rather mushy and long. The weather was sunny for us, with only a few hours of clouds. After a long day of surfing, we headed out to town. The first night we headed to Shagwong bar for dinner then cruised over to the Surfer’s Lounge. The Surfer’s Lounge is a very trendy long island hotspot. We were a bit underdressed and sammy was a bit perturbed that a $5 bill couldn’t get him a beer. Nonetheless we had a blast closing down the bar!

It was an early start after a late night, but the surf was good so we headed out to repeat the day before. Everyone loved trying out the different boards that we brought with us. After 3 long sessions, we got cleaned up and headed to the Sunset Salon for the REAL Alumni Retreat party. We had a great live band, My Friend Ben play and over 200 guests. It was a great dinner and hung out with everyone. It quickly turned into another long night as after the dinner party we cruised over to another bar to listen to a reggae band. After a few drinks we headed back to the Surfer’s Lounge then cruised to a diner before getting back to the hotel.

We didn’t have the sizey waves that we had the previous two days, but I don’t think anyone had more fun than on this day. Sitting in the line up was a blast, with time to chat and joke around with everyone made it a day of surfing we won’t soon forget. That night we had a BBQ at the East Deck, which was right at the surf spot. Matt, Dave and Sam headed back that night while the rest of us hung out for the next day.

Jason took a morning paddle with Buffet. We packed up the truck with the ridiculous amount of gear that we had, and hit the road to Napeague to try and squeeze in a kite. We arrived to marginal winds. We unpacked the REAL Port-a-kicker and set it up. Slezy headed out and we got a couple shots before the wind had died out. It was time to hit the road to Trip’s parents house for the night and then a road trip back to Cape Hatteras.

It has been a long but amazingly fun two-week, and after doing just about every sport I know and being away from Cape Hatteras, but I’m glad to be getting back.

  • Clean Shoulder Surf Session

    BRYANELKUS_22116

I took my first Standup session in a very long time today. Since I had to turn in my noserider, i’m currently out of a long board for the time being. I grabbed a SUP and headed out with Tommie, Eric, Jason, Dave and Ryan. I rode the new 11′ Takayma SUP. The waves were clean, fun and about shoulder high. On a beautiful clear sunny and warm day, it was a much needed session.

  • Surf at Sea Haven

    BRYANELKUS_21895

Its been a while since I have have shot. Today it turned out to be rather warm and sunny. We scored a bit of a swell today though it was quite disorganized. I oped out from the session today as I spent a while on the beach waiting to see a “makeable” wave and only saw a handful. At the end of my shooting it started to clean up a bit more but i had to head back to work. I had the camera out and took a couple pics. I’m hoping tomorrow morning is going to be a lot more fun, though its going to be chilly.

    Check out more shots HERE.

  • S-Turns Surf Session

    BRYANELKUS_21682
Today was sunny and warm, well warm as in 50 degrees. Which means that it was time to surf. I haven’t been surfing since I was in Hawaii. Jason called and said there was a small wave so Zack, Tommie, Beth, Melissa and I headed to S-Turns for a fun little surf session.

Mel and beth held down the beach and took photos. The water was still really cold but there were some fun little waves coming through as the tide changed.

    More surfing pictures HERE.

  • Todi USA Header

    Todi_Index_Surf

Todi USA recently picked up a couple images for their homepage. Todi is an athletic footwear company. They are marketed towards athletes. The shoes look nice and I hear are quite comfortable. The two shots they choose are a surfing and kiteboarding image. The ktieboarding shot of Evan was taken in The Slick. The thick barrel surfing shot was taken at the First Jetty at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.
