Real in Montauk, NY
It was a long weekend of Surfing, Standup Paddleboarding and partying. We stayed at the East Deck in Montauk for the REAL Alumni Retreat. I shot and rode three times each day. It was a total blast. Montauk has some very nice local surfers. We had a great little swell the first two days. The waves were waist to chest and head high on the sets. It was a great longboarding wave, because it was rather mushy and long. The weather was sunny for us, with only a few hours of clouds. After a long day of surfing, we headed out to town. The first night we headed to Shagwong bar for dinner then cruised over to the Surfer’s Lounge. The Surfer’s Lounge is a very trendy long island hotspot. We were a bit underdressed and sammy was a bit perturbed that a $5 bill couldn’t get him a beer. Nonetheless we had a blast closing down the bar!
It was an early start after a late night, but the surf was good so we headed out to repeat the day before. Everyone loved trying out the different boards that we brought with us. After 3 long sessions, we got cleaned up and headed to the Sunset Salon for the REAL Alumni Retreat party. We had a great live band, My Friend Ben play and over 200 guests. It was a great dinner and hung out with everyone. It quickly turned into another long night as after the dinner party we cruised over to another bar to listen to a reggae band. After a few drinks we headed back to the Surfer’s Lounge then cruised to a diner before getting back to the hotel.
We didn’t have the sizey waves that we had the previous two days, but I don’t think anyone had more fun than on this day. Sitting in the line up was a blast, with time to chat and joke around with everyone made it a day of surfing we won’t soon forget. That night we had a BBQ at the East Deck, which was right at the surf spot. Matt, Dave and Sam headed back that night while the rest of us hung out for the next day.
Jason took a morning paddle with Buffet. We packed up the truck with the ridiculous amount of gear that we had, and hit the road to Napeague to try and squeeze in a kite. We arrived to marginal winds. We unpacked the REAL Port-a-kicker and set it up. Slezy headed out and we got a couple shots before the wind had died out. It was time to hit the road to Trip’s parents house for the night and then a road trip back to Cape Hatteras.
It has been a long but amazingly fun two-week, and after doing just about every sport I know and being away from Cape Hatteras, but I’m glad to be getting back.

Gorge Trip Day 7
Today was travel day. Unfortunately, we had to leave the gorge today. Sam, Jason and myself headed to the airport. We spent the morning packing up the house as the river was glassy. During the 2 hours of packing and cleaning the wind picked up to full force. We stopped by the sandbar for a 30-45 minute session before hauling it to the airport. I made it to SLC fine and even being upgraded to first class for my flight to JFK. I got to have lunch with my sister in the city and we hung out at Spaethes new climbing gym. Matt picked us up in Brooklyn and we headed up to Trip’s parents house for dinner. It was a busy day!

Gorge Trip Day 6
It was another glass off on the river today, so Joby and Jake invited us to go mountain biking. Aaron Sales let me borrow his bike and we hit the trail. I took some pictures and then it was action time. Jake, Jason and Joby were just killing it on the trails and the rest of us were just keeping up. After a long morning of biking, we hung out and then headed over to Tekko’s and Tanya’s for a BBQ and then called it a night.

Gorge Trip Day 5
The wind was not really happening so we all headed to the mountain. The REAL Crew meet up with the 2nd Wind, Liquid Force and the Trew Crews to head up to the mountain. Pepe and the 2nd Wind guys hooked us up with the gear we were missing to go ride. The Trew guys drove all of us up in their RV and outfitted us with some rad outer wear. We had a blast on the way up to the hill.
By the time we got up there the blue skies changed to gray and cloudy ones. We hopped on the lift. It was cold and as foggy as could be. Just as we passed the last lift pole the fog broke and we were above the clouds and it was sunny with the most amazing view of the summit.
We rode all morning hitting the park and just cruising. Chris Buke (a UK Kiter) took his first turns with us that morning. By the time he was half way down the hill he was linking turns and hoping 180s, amazing! Ruben was throwing the craziest face plants and slezy was throwing down like usual. I scored a couple runs with out my gear and had a good time on one of the kickers and the rainbow rail. We all had a great time on the mountain. Riding in the summer had been a long time goal of mine ever since I was a little grom.
We headed back from the mountain to say good-bye to Lulu, Brandon and Claire as they had to catch their flights back to Hatteras. We took a quick nap than caught up with Charlie Burwell and CO. for dinner at the country club. What a great day!

Gorge Trip Day 4
Today was recovery day. After a long day of riding and a long night of partying we took it slow. The crew went to the skate park then we headed to Tekko’s to check it out and hang with some of the LF crew. It was off to see a movie and then we cruised over to Pepe’s house for a really fun BBQ with some great people.

Gorge Trip Day 3
Sam, Brandon and I headed over to the skate park. After the park we headed back to the house to pack up the car and headed over to the sand bar. It was a very long day of kiting. I headed out for a session. It was so great to get on the water again. I hit the new fun box pretty much the hole time. It is so easy to stay up wind there because of the current. It’s pretty much the coolest about riding in the hood.
After riding I went up and got my camera and shot all afternoon. It got extremely windy there after. I snuck in one more session in between shooting. After heading back to the house we headed out to meet up with Charlie for a drink. Then we went over to the party and watched Ben’s new movie which was pretty sick.

Gorge Trip Day 2
We headed up early to get out to help build the sliders etc. We make it there a bit later than we had hoped, as we had to feed everyone and then stop by the skate park for a little session. We headed back to the house and packed the car with gear to kite. It was windy once we got out there, however the wind was pretty up and down.
The boys dragged out the new fun box. Everyone sessioned for a couple hours then the wind started to fade. I did some filming and then tried to kite quick after slezy came in, but it was too light to get upwind by then. We packed up and then headed back to the skate park with Davey.
The boys were killing it. They eventually made it up to the HUGE mickey mouse bowl and were ripping. After the skate we headed back to the sand bar for the party. There was a bug bonfire and band playing while everyone was hanging out.

Gorge Trip Day 1
After a long day of traveling (starting at 2am) the REAL Team made it to Portland. Slezy was there to pick me up when I got in. We waited with Nate for the rest of the crew to get in. Then we headed up the river to the hood. It was an amazing drive with nothing but great views all the way there. Once we found our house we headed over to the Sand Bar to catch up with Joby and see what was going on. Lulu and Brandon pumped up and headed out to kite. It was so nice to shoot kiting in such a different location. This place is insane. Then we hung out and waited for Jason and sam to get back from tracking down their gear. Nate took us out to for dinner to a pizza restaurant and we called it a night.
