  • REAL Peru 2010 Day 6

    BRYANELKUS_179675

We meet up with Josh the night before in Mancora. The next morning Josh, Gary, Julien and I headed to a town south of Lobitos to get Gary’s truck outfitted with some new tires for the following adventures. We spent the morning around this town checking out the happening and tasting the local foods.

Then we headed to Lobitos for a surf check where we found a nearly empty lineup. Josh and Julien headed out for a paddle and we soon found out that the current was the culprit. Josh battled through the current to catch a couple waves before heading in.

After packing up the gear we met up with the rest of the crew and headed back to Mancora for an early evening and dinner.

Today was well a very crazy day. We started to load the trucks at 8:30am and later arrived an hour later at Labitos to a warm local welcome (being very sarcastic). One of the great downsides to surfing is the localism that comes along with it.

We got a great dose of it this morning, and probably rightfully so pulling up in two packed out vehicles, though only a handful of people were surfing. We still scored a couple fun waves before the wind picked up and we packed it up and headed out. I also scored a two fun waves (thanks to Ronald for shooting!)

Coincidently, we had a flat tire on one of the trucks before leaving lobitos. We fixed the flat tire, then we were on the road to the kite spot. After we made it about half way there, the second truck blew a tire and the trailer’s tire also went! That’s three tires in one day! We got it sorted out to make it to a gas station then emptied the trailer and stacked all the board bags on the two trucks 4-5 coffin bags high! We later made it to the kitespot to find a great wave though it was closing out. It was significantly bigger than the previous days. The crew scored a couple great waves before the sunset and we headed back to Mancora.

  • REAL Peru 2010 Day 4

    BRYANELKUS_178286

We headed to Lobitos as the waves were small and hoped that there wouldn’t be a huge lineup. We made it in time for everyone to get a few good waves before the wind picked up. It was about shoulder high and peeled like only a peru waves can.

    BRYANELKUS_178141
    BRYANELKUS_178520

Then we packed up the trucks in a dust storm and headed back north to the kite spot. Everyone got out lit on 10m kites. We rode until around 6pm when the wind started to die out a bit and everyone was exhausted. The waves were fun but still very small.

  • REAL Peru 2010 Day 3

    BRYANELKUS_177027

We woke up early again but there were no waves so we just hungout and waited for breakfast. After a great meal we packed up the Trucks and headed out to the kite spot. By the time we arrived the wind was cranking. We pumped up 10ms and headed out to session.

The waves were very small but playful. The clients had a great time in the waves learning how to bottom and top turn like the pro. Jason held a mini clinic to help everyone out. The rest of the day was spent on the beach and kiting.

  • REAL Peru 2010 Day 2

    BRYANELKUS_177201

We started off day two exactly how you should in peru, with a nice walk on the beach to the point for a surf session with your buddies. A small crew of us headed out for an early morning surf. The wave was waist high and very mellow, which was a great confidence booster. We grabbed a quick bite to eat and packed the cars for the days kiting excursion.

    BRYANELKUS_177320

We arrived to a building light breeze and clouds. After the clouds cleared the wind picked up a bit. It was a perfect 12m day. The waves were a bit smaller than yesterday but still plenty fun. Jason headed out to be the guinea pig. All was good and everyone pumped up. I headed out a while later and had one of the most fun kite surfing session I’ve had in a long time. The waist high waves were hacked by the whole crew. We left just in time to return to mancora for sunset and another amazing dinner.

  • REAL Peru 2010 Day 1

    BRYANELKUS_176259

After almost 30 hours of trains planes and automobiles we made it to Mancora Peru. It took 3 flights a two 2+hour drives but we made it and better yet so did the gear. Slezy and I did the first part of the trip by ourselves meeting up with most of the crew in the Lima airport for some papa jons pizza and drinks at 2am while we waited for our last flight to Puria and then the final drive to the resort.

After hanging out at the resort for a little we packed up and headed out for a kiteboarding session. The waves were very fun and playful. Everyone got out and rode today and had an amazing time! I even got to score a couple waves too. After countless hours of travel then a great kite session a fantastic dinner pretty much took everyone out. It was a long but great day and its good to be back in Peru!

  • Hood River 2010 Videos

REAL Team Oregon Coast | KB4C 2010 from Real Watersports on Vimeo.

While out in Hood River last week, I shoot two short videos while not taking stills. It was incredibly difficult to shoot both video and photos for the trip. It seems easy in theory but to actually try and compile enough quality clips/shots to document the trip was much more difficult that expected. That being said, we walked away with two fun videos and a handful of 5 star photos.

The first video takes you to Hood River, the Oregon Coast and covers the KB4C event. The second video is about the Ro-Sham-Throw Down Event.

    enjoy…

The event was a blast. I some how made it into the event which was really cool, but I gave up my spot in order to shoot the event. They named it the Ro-Sham-Throw Down. The event went well even with the gusty winds. They had a great turnout. We spent most of the time on the Sand Bar, which is where the event was held. Aaron Hadlow took first followed by Brandon Scheid and Billy Parker.

    BRYANELKUS_172472

After the event was over the crew rallied 3 days in a row for shooting in 7m weather. We got a ton of work done. It was a lot of work but still really fun!

    BRYANELKUS_169960

The last day we were taken to a non disclosed location to kite a secret spot. It was on a river with a raging current, which made for an extremely interesting session for the REAL Team. All in all it was an amazing trip out West.

  • Ro-Sham-Throw Down Hood River Slider Jam Part 1

    BRYANELKUS_169983
The next day we made it back to Hood River after another great day of sessions on the coast. Later we found out it was a great choice as there was no wind in hood river those two days. They held the qualifiers for the Ro-Sham-Throw Down. I decided to ride in the qualifier along with Brian “BCS” Smith and a bunch of the other really good kiters like Sam Light, Rick Jensen etc…

    BRYANELKUS_169981

The first heat went well with great 12m winds, by the time the it was our heat the wind started to get crazy. It was up and down and very inconsistent. I don’t think I was able to hit one thing before the wind died out for the day. But it still made for a very fun day.

    BRYANELKUS_169986

Since the kiting was done we hit up the skate park for a while and ended the day with some not so good Chinese food.
