    Weekend of Sessions

    BRYANELKUS_22766

It was the weekend of sessions.

Saturday Mel and I hung out at the beach for a while watching Jason, Lindsay and crew surf. After lunch, we drove north from ramp 23 to find an uncrowded break and wound up joined the rest of the crew at Maco Oca. I rode my 6’8 JS, and still love it. Then we headed to REAL to meet some of the new coaches at their tryout party.

Sunday was a great day too. I meet up with Rick from MI and we did a downwinder from SDA to REAL. Just before I got back to REAL, Brandon and Evans headed out. I headed back up to the slick with them. I landed a few tricks to blind. It was a great start to the season!

After a nap, Jason called and he and I headed out for a sunset kite session in the slick. It was a blast I was very powered on a 12m and there was no one else out. We had the Slick to ourselves. Mel and Lulu were out at the dock and took some pictures. On top of that I was a killer sunset.

12m 09 LF Havoc Slick Kite Session

    BRYANELKUS_22213
It was suppose to be a 4 star surf day but I can tell you I checked about 6 spots this morning and there was nothing 4 star about it. Luckily, the wind was suppose to blow SW, and it did.

It was about 65 and 20 knots, perfect! It seemed like it was the first day of summer as most of the new coaches were in the back yard. I pumped up a Liquid Force 09 12m Havoc for my session. I meet up with Brandon who was already up riding in the slick, and Jason and Otto were on their way.

    BRYANELKUS_22354

I really enjoyed the 12m Havoc. The kite had much better high end this year and even better relaunch. Chris took a couple photos while we were out riding. It was warm and not to crowded, which made it a very nice session.

    REAL Team Retreat

Saturday: first day of the retreat
We knew that the weather was not going to hold off for us, so we took the mandatory session first thing. We all packed up the surfboards and headed out to an empty break. It was fun to session with everyone at once and get to try out all the new gear.  It got a bit crowded and with a couple collisions. I had a good time on the 11’0 Takyama Standup. We spent the rest of the day doing meetings then cocktails and dinner.

Each meal was prepared by a few different people each time.  Sam Bell, Shannon and I got to do cocktails on the second day.  Needless to say it was the best and most well prepared event during the retreat.

Sunday: second day of the retreat
We worked all day and then took our session at around 3pm. It was surfing and Standup again. We headed to the Frisco pier. We paddled out and sessioned for about an hour and the storm really rolled in. Once the lighting came near, it was a sprint back to the beach. Then it was time for cocktails and dinner. It was great to have time to hang out and relax with the entire crew at one location with nothing to do but play, drink, eat and tell stories.

Monday: third day of the retreat
We again worked all day and then headed out into the snow at 3pm for a very fun surf at the lighthouse. It was head, high clean and lined up. I rode a 6’6 Surftech Piranha.  As i paddled out next to the jetty it was full on snowing.  It was the first time out surfing in the snow.  With a very strong current, I made it about three laps before it was time to head in for warmth.

    Clean Shoulder Surf Session

    BRYANELKUS_22116

I took my first Standup session in a very long time today. Since I had to turn in my noserider, i’m currently out of a long board for the time being. I grabbed a SUP and headed out with Tommie, Eric, Jason, Dave and Ryan. I rode the new 11′ Takayma SUP. The waves were clean, fun and about shoulder high. On a beautiful clear sunny and warm day, it was a much needed session.

    Chilly NW in The Slick

    BRYANELKUS_22026

Today’s session took a while to come around. We were supposed to get a strong SW wind before the switch to NW kicked in. However, the wind didn’t come up until the NW came in and a strong cell passed over us. David, Ed, Ryan and I played around in the slick. I pulled my brand new crispy 2009 Liquid Force 8m Havoc out of my truck. I absolutely loved this kite. I didn’t feel like I had a ton of power, but I was cruising up wind will little effort. It was very stable and good turning speed. It was very cold and after being unable to land any tricks because my feet were completely numb I headed in.

    Location: The Slick
    Wind Direction: NW
    Wind Speed: 21-28
Kite: 09 Liquid Force 8m Havoc
    Board: LF 144cm Mission
    Wetsuit: O’Neill 5/4 Mutant
    Bindings: yes
    Harness: DaKine Tabu

    Lulu LF Mavin Board Shoot

    BRYANELKUS_21999

I woke up this morning to go surf. I head out the door to see a puddle in the driveway was frozen and walked right back inside. It was a cold one!

I grabbed a couple quick shots of Lulu. She needed a pic of her with her new LF Mavined out board. It was even colder tonight with the NW wind howling at 15 knots. We got off a couple shots and then headed in for warmth. The one good thing about the cold is that your drinks stay chilled during the shoot.

    REAL PERU09 Kiteboard/Surf Trip

REAL Watersports announces REAL PERU09. It is a 10 day trip to Peru in August for kiteboard and surfing. It is going to be a great setup with a great location and accommodations. Peru is known for its great waves and wind in the winter, summer for us. I edited a quick video shot by Elliot Leboe of ACL Productions to show what Peru’s riding conditions will entail. Should be an amazing trip especially for us goofy footers!
