  • Snow in Hatteras, again

    BRYANELKUS_19671

It snowed again today in Hatteras. Not only did it snow, but it also started sticking. It has been cold and windy with this front rolling through. We have accumulated about 1-2 inches thus far. Were hoping to get in a snowkite session in the morning if the snow continues.

  • A New Face

BORED. Bored, bored, bored, I was bored with the look of the old blog. So, it was time for a little update, a face-lift if you will. With a little help from my buddy David Carson, I was off into the world of CSS. It quickly brought me back to my computer science classes at Kalamazoo College, and the countless sleepless nights learning to code. Evidently, I learned something at school, because learning to use CSS did not take quite as long as I had thought.

  • Thanksgiving

    BRYANELKUS_14728

I hope everyone had a happy thanksgiving. I was lucky enough to head home for the weekend. Saw the family, friends and snow! It was a whirlwind of a trip so I didn’t have much time to shoot. But here are a couple shots I was able to grab.

  • The Daily Donkey

I came across a particularly funny website this weekend. Its called “The Daily Donkey”. Jason, Trevor and I were having a beer after our Slick Session and I happened to come across this website. We spent the next hour and a half checking out nearly every post before we couldn’t take it any more. It’s a website dedicated to poking fun at bad style. It seems like the guy has a real thing against Standup Paddleboarding and surf camps. I wonder what he would think about REAL’s SUP camps? It’s filled with hilarious pictures and some of the worst surfing videos the internet has to offer. Those of you with some surfing knowledge will find the site more entertaining than others. It’s not just the picture or video that makes it work, it’s his comments to the ordeal. Only if your in a great mood check out some of the posts here:

  • HDR Sunset and Strobed Gazebo

The wind cranked all day. I was about the head out of work when I realized that the foliage was not moving around to hard. It was only blowing about 15 so I decided to try and go shoot something, anything. I drove around for a little without luck. Then the clouds over the horizon started to dissipate and I thought there might be a chance for a decent sunset. I headed over to this house with a gazebo that we always pass on downwinders in the Sound. I set up camp and waited. I grabbed a couple HDR shots because of the wide variance in exposures of the scene.

Next I wanted to try to light up the gazebo with a strobe. So I hid one of my flashes (1/1 full power and the other flash on the camera at 1/8 power just to slightly light up the planks and railing.) behind a beam in the gazebo and stepped back and hoped for the best.
