  • Testing the Canon EOS-1D Mark IV

    BRYANELKUS_125528
Yesterday a Canon EOS-1D Mark IV arrived at my office for a little demo. I was very egger to check it out. I am now on a shooting mission to play with this amazing piece of equipment. I headed out to S-Turns to shoot they guys going on a downwinder with a NE breeze.

The camera is big, sturdy and fast! Its fps are almost double my Canon 40D’s. The coolest thing is that it shoots HD video. I found myself wanting to shoot more video than shoot pictures.

  • Slider Session on the Slingshot Recoil

    BRYANELKUS_125096
It quite a long day at work. By the time we got out the sun was setting. But luckily Sam, Craig and Eric had pulled out the JWCF Slider for a session. I got a couple pulls on my seemly long lost Slingshot Recoil 142cm wakeboard.  I discovered the board in the shed at REAL after nearly forgetting about it over the winter.  What a find!

It was very nice to get back on that board again. It’s a perfect slider board for wakeboarding just not too great at going up wind behind a kite due to the rocker. After a couple pulls, I grabbed the camera and headed out to shoot the guys.

  • 2010 Late Winter Coverage

The first few months in 2010 have been quite busy to say the least. Here is some of the coverage from the last month or so.

    SBC_34_pg40_41

SBC Kiteboard released Issue #34. I scored an opening spread from the Nor’easter that hit Cape Hatteras in November 2009. Lulu and I got together to get her a double page spread in the Tools of the Trade section.
Last there was a little shout out for the 2010 Triple-S Invitational, the best kiteboarding contest in the world. This shot was one of my favorites as it was a very spur of the moment shot in the airport on the way down to the REAL BVI Trip.

The Kiteboarder Magazing Volume 7 Issue 2 also released. They published two shots from the REAL BVI Trip. One was a fun group shot on the bow of one of the Moorings yachts, and the other was a scenic shot of one of the beaches in the British Virgin Islands.

    OvernightPrints_Blog

Overnight Prints posted up a blogpost about some of the designers and artist that use them for their projects. I made it in the list, “Brillian Art & Design”!

Kiteboarding.eu ran a profile on Petter Johnson in their first issue of the year. I meet up with Petter for a snowkite trip to Utah last year. Since then he has been blowing up, with an amazing performance and wildcard entry at the 2009 Triple-S Invitational and tons of coverage. A great rider and really nice and down to earth kid.

They also ran a couple shots of Brandon Scheid, REAL and Liquid Force Team Rider, in their second issue.

Kiteworld Issue #43 also made its way to mail boxes across the world. A couple shots of Davey Blair showed up in the mix.

  • Saturday Wakeboard Session

    BRYANELKUS_124901

Sunday was another no session day. I spent the morning organizing my gear and de-waxing my surfboards. That afternoon I meet up with the crew in the back yard of REAL to session the JWCF Slider.

It was our first slider session of the year, even though it was behind a ski. We all had a good couple pulls when Brian BCS Smith got up to the plate. His first few runs were great, with a frontside gap. Then with a failed nose press, which stuck, flung him over the handle bars and head first into the sound.

Feeling like he broke something we took everything really slow and got him to the hospital where the docs said he was all-good but would be very sore for a few days. Thanks goodness.

  • Golf & Gardening

    BRYANELKUS_124836

Saturday was pretty mellow around the Island.  Melissa and I headed up the beach.  Our first stop was at the Nags Head Links, a great Golf Club in the Nags Head – Kitty Hawk area, for some driving range action.  After we each went through our buckets it was off to Home Depot for gardening supplies.  We hit the garden hard after we got back.

  • Boost Session in Cape Hatteras, NC

Yesterday was cranking again. After work some of the guys did some serious boosting in the backyard of REAL. Sam Medysky and Eric Rienstra were doing some large kiteloops. It was a great time out there. Nothing like a boost session every now and again.

  • South Side Kiteboarding and Sunset Session

    BRYANELKUS_124578
Today was another busy day with lots of action. Cape Hatteras seems to be bussing with people. The warm weather and great wind have brought summer in full force this week. I took a split shift today and headed south to Hatteras Island to meet up with some Michigan kiting friends who are in town.

After a South Side downwinder in waist high waves on my 8m Havoc and surfboard, I headed back to work. I went out back to catch the sunset session. Some of the guys were doing huge kiteloops. There were even a few great crashes to be seen.
