  • Windsurfing Shoot in Cape Hatteras

    BRYANELKUS_123822

I was a very busy day at work especially after a long photoshoot the night before. The wind was cranking all day from the SW. Everyone was out riding, lessons were going out and I was inside working…

I headed out from work and went south to Avon to meet up with Stu for a photoshoot. I was psyched, as this shoot was a windsurfing shoot. I have never shot windsurfing before, let alone see this caliber of riders do their thing up close.

We headed out into the sound for a couple hours to shoot. Also in town were some of Stu’s buddies who were ripping! After getting what we needed, I rigged up my kite for a quick session sunset with them. It was a blast they were hauling across the water and I was just boosting in the 25-30 knots. It was a great evening.

  • Warm SW Kiteboarding in Cape Hatteras, NC

    BRYANELKUS_122728

Yesterday was the first warm day on Cape Hatteras. So I promptly took a lunch kite session. The wind was 18 knots, I put up a 12m Liquid Force Havoc and grabbed my 6’1 Surftech Surf Rx surfboard and headed up to the slick in a SHORTY for a quick session.

That evening I met up with Brandon Scheid, Brian Smith, Craig Cunningham and Sam Medysky for a photoshoot. We shot until dark. It was great to get back in the groove and see how far the guys have come since the year before.

  • Surfing Weekend

    BRYANELKUS_122108

Friday night we started off with a photoshoot with Brian “BCS” Smith. There was fog coming off the ocean and the sound which made for an all time sunset. But by the time we had the shoot set up a thick fog rolled in to cancel us. We followed the shoot by drinks, dinner and a skate.

It was surf boot camp in Cape Hatteras, NC this weekend. We seemly surfed non-stop all weekend. With Ed, Lindsey and the Earley’s in town, I guess it was bound to happen. Saturday we went to Ramp 27 for some beach time. The waves looked awful at best. But we decided to paddle out. About an hour later, the waves came out of nowhere. We surfed for another 3 hours and then packed up and went up north to watch the State game at the bar.

Sunday was a repeat at Ramp 23 but without the great waves. With the wind picking up we called it a day and went home. I paddled out at Mirlo again with Duca around 6 for a small wave session. Then we met up with the Earley’s for a massive dinner.

  • Triple Session Day

    BRYANELKUS_121801
It was a fun day in Cape Hatteras, NC today. I started the morning off North of town for a longboard session with Zack. The surf was a far bit smaller than the previous night but still some serious barrels were reeling in.

    BRYANELKUS_121823

Work was very busy today trying to get some things fixed, but made it out for a great skate session at Slezy’s house with Brandon, Joel, Nick and Jason. After work I cruised back out to the surf for a quick session on my 6’8 JS. It was smaller but still a couple fun waves coming through.

  • Kite Point Kiteboarding Session

    BRYANELKUS_121158

Real hosted a Demo Daze and Party Nights this weekend. I meet up with the crew at Kite Point for a session and to check out all the new 2010 Kiteboarding gear. There is a lot of really good-looking gear out there this year. I took a quick session on the Slingshot 10m RPM and the 138cm Liquid Force Influence.  I really liked the board and can’t wait to get it in a 142.  The RPM is a great kite and relaunches impressively well, the load and pop on it is a bit different than my 09 Havocs, so it took a little getting use too.    After a great morning of kiting we wrapped the day up with a fun skate session.

  • Ecuador : Otovalo Region

    BRYANELKUS_120553
We meet up with our guide Oz again early in the morning in Quito. From there we drove about two hours into the mountains to visit the Otovalo region. The first stop was to a place were they made figurines out of dough. After that we headed deeper into the mountain. We headed into the town and stopped at a great food and craft markets. It was an amazing experience and quite a sight to see.

    BRYANELKUS_120498

After a great lunch we headed to a real shaman. She performed a ceremony on my dad, which was pretty unique to watch. It was something straight out of a National Geographic magazine. After she balances our energy with, herbs, scents, fire and alcohol we hit the road and went to a place were they made the famous weavings of Otovalo. The owner demonstrated how they made the different types of weavings. Then we headed back to Quito for dinner and a red eye back to the States.
